Revell P51-D Mustang

This is the Revell 1:32 Mustang (early version). Took me some time to complete this build... Some mistakes were made, had to un-paint and redo some parts... It was a nice kit with good detail. Feel free to leave a comment.

    What an incredibly creative approach and tremendous work. Just ordered this kit. I am highly impressed at WBP’s channel… even my dirtiest birds look factory floor clean (well, possibly 1 mission) after watching this build! When I grow up, I want to be half this good (halfway thru my 60s, though). It hit me today that watching him work reminds me of when I, as a guitar player, watch Hendrix or Van Halen play… I can’t do that, but seeing masters like Jimi (and WBP) helps me to improve.

    You are seriously exaggerating, my fiend... I am by no means a master, especially compared with some of the real masters that you can see here in YT... (I'm 61+ myself by the way).. At any rate, thank you very much for your kind words. I hope I won't disappoint in the future :) I also hope you enjoy your P-51 ! Greetings from Greece!

    Super job on the Mustang....all aspects, the build, painting and weathering were great to watch which I thoroughly enjoyed. Good to see 1/32 planes being tackled on YT as it is my favourite scale to build.....unfortunately old hands and eyesight don't do too well with smaller scales...even 1/48 scale is taxing. Catch you on the next one so thanks for sharing your work.

    I hear you, man! I’m a 1/48 lifer, but seriously considering 1/32 - this kit, in particular - next. There is much more room to move. There is more yardage to cover, too, but it seems as if the scale is a bit more forgiving in the colour department. I am afraid, though, that our host here makes it look easy.

    It would've been nice if Revell would've made the landing gear assembly removable like the one in the Tamyia kit so the plane can be displayed either with the gear retracted or extended...also, a later version with the vertical stab extension would've been nice too, that's just a better looking airplane IMO...

    I didn't even know of the existence of the 1:32 Ju88 Technik... It definitely seems to be a challenge. If I can get my hands on it (provided the price isn't forbidding) I would definitely consider building it, although at 60+ cm it would pose a problem where to store it.. (having two cats at home does not allow free-standing models ;) The Flogger, I wouldn't even touch.. but that's mainly because I'm into WW2 planes mostly and not jets.. However, I am in your position with another kit.. I have bought the Platinum Edition of the 1:144 Fletcher type destroyer by Revell which contains 700 parts and just as many PE parts... It's been standing there for months now and I don't dare start it... Thank you for your comment :)

    Would love to hear your thoughts on the amount of "flash" you had to clean up on the sprues and parts. I've just recently gotten back into plastic models and probably spoiled myself with the Tamiya P-38 F/G kit. I prefer the larger scale, but the vids I've seen so far on Revell's models seem to show a lot of flash that has to be cleaned up. Thanks!

  • @wbpsmodels3452

    @wbpsmodels3452

    3 жыл бұрын

    As you can see in the vid, there was practically minimal flash on this model... see my 1:32 corsair.. THAT had a lot of flash!! At any rate, when I cut a piece from the sprue, I make the cut away from the part and then I use the cutter in parallel to the edge of the piece to remove the remaining joint. After the cut, I always use the scalpel to even out the surface. New Revel models (new tooling) are almost flashless... Then again, you never know... I bought an Italeri 1:48 stuka a year ago which was flawless! Then three months ago, I bought an 1:48 P-38 Lightning.. there was some airplane within the flash! Worst model i've ever seen. Thank you for watching and commenting. :)

    Awesome build, a "to do" model on my list. Can you tell me a little about the wash you use please. I am unable to use laquer paints, and have lung sensitivity to thinners. I am trying to find a homemade acrylic solution that just rubs off without thinners.

  • @wbpsmodels3452

    @wbpsmodels3452

    2 жыл бұрын

    The wash I used was a mixture of black and burned umber oil paints thinned with thinner... Although there are some "odourless" thinners, they also fall under the "thinner / mineral spirits" category and therefore not suggested for you, considering your lung condition... Therefore, the only alternative you can use, is acrylic washes. I know for a fact that Vallejo DOES have a series of acrylic washes, but I wasn't too happy with the one I tried, hence I stick to oils. Usually, "the book" says that you use alternate paint and washes base (i.e. use enamel / lacquer washes over acrylic paints and varnish and vise versa).. However, I am sure that if you use a couple hands (layers) of gloss acrylic varnish and allow it to fully cure (say, 48 hrs), you will be able to use acrylic washes too. Thank you for watching :)

But the Propeller manufacturing Decals if I'm not mistaken should be in the Middle of the blades about half way.... If the Instructions said put them way up there I'd question it.. Where is their Proof.... Go to a North American aviation website on the Mustang and see Where the markings are on the prop blades.... If this model went to a Contest I'd Ask for a photo of the prop blades.... Who knows maybe this did happen and I'm Wrong..... Great Effort D. Kiliingsworth
