DELPHINE DESCENDS
After her family is killed and her homeworld occupied, young Kathreen Martin is sent to the distant world of Furoris for re-education. She will live the rest of her life as a serf - to be bought and sold as a commodity of the Imperial Network.
When her only chance of escape is ruined, a chance mistaken identity offers her a new life as the orphaned daughter of a First-Citizen Senator and heiress to a vast fortune.
She vows to claw her way into power to sit among the worlds’ elite. Then, with her own hands, she will reap bloody vengeance on them all.
But to beat them, she must play their game. And she must play it better than them all.
BLACK MILK
Prometheus has the chance to bring his wife back from the dead, but doing so will mean the destruction of Earth.
Spanning time, planets and dimensions, Black Milk draws to a climactic point in a post-apocalyptic future, where humanity, stranded with no planet to call home, fights to survive against a post-human digital entity that pursues them through the depths of space.
Five lives separated by aeons are inextricably linked by Prometheus’s actions:
Ystil.3 is an AI unit sent back in time from the distant future to investigate Prometheus’s discovery...
The mysterious Lydia has devoted her life to finding a planet that the last remaining humans can call home…
Tom Jones (he’s a HUGE fan!) is an AI trapped inside a digital subspace, lost and desperate to find his way back to his beloved in real-time…
Dr Norma Stanwyck is a neuroscientist from 24th Century Earth whose personal choices ripple throughout time...
Prometheus must learn the necessity of death or the entire universe will be swallowed by his grief.

Want the origin explained in Chasm City? Something to do with the Grubs? And Dream Fuel was the cure which is excreted by the Grubs? It's been a while since I read it so maybe I'm misremembering.

I thought so as well. Gideons ship must have had it on board and i doubt it was a malicious technology. If it was meant to be a weapon, it would probably not have left anything at all on Yellowstone. The Conjoiners even developed plague hardened nanomachines within what? A few decades? That‘s actually kind of quick.

@@niempi2 to be fair: „reaserach“ in this topic involves several thousand pages of which only a few dozen are actually relevant to any given issue… it‘s easy to miss something.

read the books years ago This reminded me how good the ideas were In the 50s and 60s when they looked ahead to today they thought we would be living in undersea cities Living on the moon and Mars Travel around the planet what was missed was personal computers how they would change our work and relationships When we look ahead from now say 100 years will tec have continued to improve or will we devolve

I assumed the melding plague was a natural phenomenon because I'm a cosmic horror girlie, but I'm going to have to keep the sabotage theory in mind when I eventually do a reread.

I'm pretty sure that it was caused by grub molecular technology not playing well with human nanotech. I think that the grub's red fluid tries to harmonise inorganic and organic microscopic structures by reorganising them but accidentally destroying both in the process. Pretty sure that it is explained in Chasm City. I may be wrong it has been years since I read that one.

I like reading Sci-Fi. Stand-alone novels don't do for me anymore. I am a person who likes books. Audiobooks and e-books are, at times, missing parts of the novel. Back to my main point, I like reading book series. I have been reading Sci-Fi for more than six decades. I am retired and prefer Sci-Fi series. I read some of the books that you recommended a long time ago. What I am looking for in reviews or recommendations is a modern series. I've read the "Expanse" series, the "Void" series by Peter F. Hamilton, plus other series too numerous to mention. I am currently reading the second volume of "The Inhibitor" series. I have read the "Revenger" series. I will be reading "The Imperial Radch" series by Ann Leckie. Can you recommend a later series than those I've finished. a while back. I am currently using a search engine to find new series to read.

Darrel, just so that you know, these deep dive titles are the most clickable of your content. KZread is so saturated of listings so alike "ten best tv series" that it's kinda meh. A good mysterious/creepy/obscure maybe a little bit uninti..ligi..lige..bly? ble? blu... title is so many times more alluring. Today's title was spot on, I was like clickity clickackity click click! See people? See? I can say useful things to Darrel without drooling all the time, success! 😎
