    Investing in many sources of income that are independent on government paychecks is the prudent thing that everyone should be thinking about right now, especially given the global economic crisis. Stocks, forex, and digital currencies are still good investments at this time.

    If you lack market knowledge, your best bet is to seek advice or support from a consultant or investing coach. Contacting a consultant may sound simple, but it's how I've managed to stay afloat in the market and increase my portfolio to roughly 60% early this year. It is, in my opinion, the best way to get started in the industry right now.

So sold 300 shares, kept 50 and put the proceeds into NVDA and BA.L for the time being. Great video Mitch, your transparency is appreciated. I have similiar portfolio size but I'm around 20yrs older. I tried individual stocks for 2-3yrs and went back to 100% OEICs, everyone should have their own strategy... I have around 50% in a global index fund with the rest spread around 3x managed funds, probably get better returns than 8% per year with other strategies but portfolio almost runs itself and I sleep better at night. Also using a money market fund for a property deposit...Moving funds to a bond OEIC once I'm ready to draw from portfolio. Good luck with your investing.

    Is there ever a bad time to start investing in a S&S ISA if you’re investing for a 10 year period? People say we’re in a bubble at the minute with the ETFs etc. I’m unsure whether to start a S&S ISA, or pay into AVC alongside my government pension which I can take 100% of I tax free upon retirement. Also with an AVC you get an immediate uplift of nearly 40% because of the tax and NI savings.

You start off saying "its ok I can take it" then after you have lost 29% over 8 months and there is no sign of the markets turning and everything is gloom, do NOT despair! There are always ups and downs and sometimes the downs are long, deep and painful. The sign of a mature and steadfast investor is to put MORE in when markets are performing badly. Hey Mitch, as a fellow 28 year old it was great to have a full peep into your portfolio, that employer pension contribution is very juicy, lucky you! I would be interested to hear more about your property investment. Is it something you would look to do more of in the future? I imagine with that mortgage amount you have a fairly decent ROCE employed with that flat?

  • @MitchShoesmith

    @MitchShoesmith

    Ай бұрын

    Hey! The property investment is ok, not spectacular but not poor. I would buy another one in future, but I think i'd lean towards getting a house rather than a flat. The service charge has massively jumped up this year unexpectedly and its really cut my margins, I'll ideally look to reduce the debt on it when the mortgage is up to increase monthly cash flow so there is more of a buffer. I do think property is a great long term investment and i will likely buy more - all being well!

    I’m always a bit concerned with rentals, the property market isn’t great, and doing some maths and assumptions your mortgage would be around £200pm, tax at 40% around £330pm, leaving just below £400pm minus any repairs and issues. Just seems a lot of headache considering VUSA could have matched that over the same period.

  • @MitchShoesmith

    It’s a LTD co so only liable to pay corp tax at 19% on it, and mortgage is £391 a month, I wish I cleared £400 a month profit but sadly nowhere near after accounting for management fees & a recently increased service charge which has hit my margins substantially. I definitely get why it wouldn’t appeal having done it myself for the past 12 months and the stresses that come with it 😂 Nonetheless over the long run once the mortgage gets cleared and property prices increase, and rent will gradually increase too it should be a very good asset with decent passive cash flow too. Feels a bit like “short term pain for long term gain” at the moment though!

Also my career is now peaking and on a 6 figure salary, daughter is approaching teenage years so less demands for childcare, wife can work fulltime etc. with property, savings and pension we are about £400k in equity. Life is good, but hasnt been without its challenges. My biggest lesson has to be intentional with my money. My wife and I have an income and expenditure sheet and a balance sheet. We budget and have direct debits or standing orders direct to savings. A seperate joint account we call 'play' and thats our monthly fun money. After bills, the rest goes to investments or savings, such as emergency fund and new car when needed.

    the s&p 500 is already heavily weighted to the companies you have invested in and tech, and then your main portfolio investments are more tech. sincerely, its already really fickle in the stock market if tech stocks just do excellent rather than invest the wheel again in their earnings. also, palantir is a hell no considering they are friendly with certain governments and do surveillance ai. no amount of money is worth that imo
