Good video! I have also used Dynaplug after a Stan’s dart failure, worked well and the tail just melds into the tire in a short time. I could just ride the tire, but I take out the plug at home and patch the inside with a tubeless tire repair kit made by Hutchinson. Then it is as good as a new tire.

Hi George, I personally consider plugs as a temporary fix to get you home, and would personally patch the tire from the inside before your long event. I had a puncture last year on one of my gravel tires that I plugged. It lasted for a few rides but started leaking again. Once I looked at patching it, I discovered that what had punctured my tire also cut the bead in a way that deformed it. Tire was therefore garbage at that point.

Hello George - Yes a plug is temporary for most people. I am a KZreadr doing research so I will run the plug long term to see how it holds. Regarding the event kzread.info/dash/bejne/n66dqZl9crKoYNo.html I discuss here what I am going to do 06:53

@@SeeYouUpTheRoad ok, I guess I missed that part when I watched it 😂 Have you ever tried using butyl tubes with sealant? I tried that with some 32mm tires and they have not gone flat since around September (have not been riding them though). I did not get a puncture yet to evaluate how they seal up though.

@@georgeb3060 Yeah, same. About 20ml of sealant inside a Conti butyl and 32c Hutchinson Sector. I haven't added air in the months I haven't riden it and needed it yesterday when it was raining. Still solid. No idea if it's ever been punctured! milKit sealant BTW, which I consider the best around.

George.. I had a funny thing happen on Friday with dynaplugs. I recently went tubeless and was having issues with the Lyzene “bacon strip” plug kit.. the insertion tool makes a giant hole in order to get tiny plug inside. I recieved the dynaplug kit Friday. Stuffed it in my jersey pocket and head out in a ride. About 20 miles in, I come upon a stranded rider. He has a tire leaking and wont seal,, he keeps adding a little air with his lyzene mini pump waiting for sealant to work (I guess he was new to riding and didn’t know the whole story on tubeless problems). He had no plugs and no spare tube. So I asked him if I could plug his leak. He said yes! Please! Dynaplug went to work.: plug went in exactly as advertised .. leak stopped immediately .. he pumped tire back up and we rode together a few miles. He explained he had a bike shop convert his new bike to tubeless, but they didn’t really explain the repair process to him and the stuff he may need to carry for serious punctures or sidewall tears. So he just thought the sealant did everything. Anyway.. we thought it was so coincidental how my first day on the road with a dynaplug kit and me encountering him was just meant to be lol. I think this plug design is aweome. I have the mini version “Racer” edition and carry it in a small bag in my jersey pocket along with a spare tube and a couple co2 bottle and tire levers. Havent used it on my bike yet, but I’ve seen it in action once and it went well.

You were Johnny on the spot! Good job getting the rider back on the road. The LBS gets a D for not explaining to the rider that sealant doesn’t always work and he needs to carry a flat kit/plugs or both

Also.. want to add.. I have a miniature folding knife that’s in my tire repair kit - to cut the dynaplug end. Added that recently. Dynaplug makes a kit in a “pill form” that contains a cutting tool. It just looks a little too chunky looking for me

t’s not necessary to cut the end off. Within a few tire rotations it mashes down and it’s not noticeable while riding.

Hi George, Please let us know how the tire last's long term. How many times can you plug a tire before it's no longer safe to ride? Using a tube would prolong the life of the tire. Every time you use a plug your weakening the structure of the tire.

Hello Aaron I have seen MTB tires come in with 3-4 plugs in them. I haven't ever seen a road tire with more than one plug. I agree with you. A tube and a patch on the inside would extend the use of the tire. It's what I have done in the past

plugs work as a permanent solution for car tires, why not road bikes? If not it then means having to waste sealant each time you have to patch the tire (sealant would have to be removed before you can patch). Will also be trying the Silca selant (just gave up on mucc off since i find it does not even seal small holes)

  • @SeeYouUpTheRoad

Silca sealant is very messy. You have to pour it in. You can’t put it through the valve. It’s fine with larger tires but 25 tires it spills everywhere

@phil_d still testing it. I have read one reason for what you describe is if you use Co2 to mount the tire . If you are forced to use it, after the tire is seated quickly let it out. I also use their replenisher top up due to sealant drying out (about every 90 days after first install
