@@thisaintittbh but in the intro he didn’t know who maria was, and black doom showed him a memory from his past to make him hate humanity, plus as you play thru the game he’s remembering and learning, he felt hurt after Maria’s death, and the final story he got that message from Gerald which motivated to leave his past behind and never forget maria’s wish.

This is so heart wrenching, man. I know Shadow needs closure for what happened to Maria but even this is painful to him. You can see all the conflict he's going through visually.

Good lord, the characterization of both characters through the voice acting and animations is insane Seeing Shadow try to stay stoic, but his voice betraying him as he speaks to Maria is... heartwrenching and telling. Not to mention the few moments and time at the end where you animate him to reveal his hidden emotions through more than voice. Maria also did an insane job, I wasn't expecting it, but the animation and voice work for her was really good! Pixelrush: you, CashlinSnow, and SImitarchVOs freakin' COOKED on this video. Damn, you make shadow really accurate

Every time Shadow shows his softer side is when he recollects his memories with Maria and how happy he used to be when he was with her and that now that she’s gone, he’s changed drastically. I hope in Sonic movie 3 when we see his early memories of his time on the ARK and with Maria, he used to be like Sonic, very carefree, happy, and acting like a kid. But after Maria’s death, he’s now the stoic, serious, and revenge-fueled hedgehog we see during the movie because of his promise to Maria because she meant that much to him he was willing to destroy the planet they both longed to visit someday, only to cause Shadow nothing but pain

Shadow's story brings one theme to the Sonic franchise that I never understood before losing someone close to me: ... ...that you always think them. No matter what or why, they stay with you even when life goes on. People may get tired of you dealing with it - hell, YOU get tired without trying to - but still, you rather be tired of them haunting you than the possibility of never knowing them. I'm glad I knew someone like that, and Shadow reminds me I'm not alone is missing someone.

This was so touching. Really harkens back to the days when Shadow had more to his character than just being a grumpy edgelord. It would be nice for him to have this kind of closure with Maria.

This reminds me very much of when Rocket reunited with Lyla in Guardians Vol 3 after her heartbreaking death. Actually come to think about it, both Shadow & Rocket's backstories are very similar to each other.

Shadow has been through so much, but it’s so heartwarming to know that he still sees Maria the way she always was, his beloved friend. 🖤

That broke my heart. I never thought I could feel this happy and this distraught at the same time, yet here we are. I don’t know who I feel more bad for, the innocent child who died before she could do the one thing she always wanted and was forced to leave behind the person she loved most or the immortal creature who lost the person he loved and will now wander the earth, probably forever, without her by his side.

This is why bringing back Shadow after Sonic Adventure 2 was a mistake, because it diminished the emotional impact of him fulfilling Maria's dying wish to save Earth at the cost of his own life and then reuniting with Maria in Heaven.

if not for bringing him back we would have never gotten the evolution of his character seen from heroes through 06 though, and shadow generations wouldn't be possible

Shadow's story was already perfect and complete by the end of Sonic Adventure 2, bringing him back to life after Sonic Adventure 2 was nothing more than a soulless cash-grab and always will be, in my opinion.

@@Rishi123456789 the evolution of his character through being able to move on from his past and discover that he need not be bound by anything but his own desire to live. his character arc was complete yes i never argued that, all i'm saying is without his revival we wouldn't have gotten his expansion as a character. shadow has had great moments in the games following sa2 (the "i'll fight like i always have" scene, confronting the gun commander peacefully in shadow 05, "time to put my past behind me" scene) and they simply wouldn't have been possible if he stayed dead. it may have been a cash grab but it doesn't feel right to call it soulless when undeniable care was put into expanding his lore

H-how did you get here? And what are you doing here? Maria: After I was dead, I became a ghost and I arrive at these islands, decided to live here. I thought you forgotten all about me. Shadow: I didn’t forget you.
