Retwists DISAPPEAR FAST! Unravelling Locs is Growth | Life, Locs and Lessons @oliviadhinds

Fresh Retwists on locs DO NOT last and that's okay. Actually, it's amazing!! One of my frequently asked questions is: "How do I make my retwist last longer?" or "How long should my retwist last?" or "My locs unravel and only stay retwisted for 2 weeks, what can I do?" And my answer to all of these is the same: The retwist isn't supposed to last. If you had to choose between holding onto a fresh retwist of your locs OR seeing your locs progress and move closer to your health hair and loc length goals, which ONE would you choose? Because you really cannot have both.
Let's continue this chapter together...

Welcome to my KZread channel. I finally made it here... (again!) after A LOT of back and forth but here I am, excited and ready to expand my reach. I enjoy connecting with others and as I have a naturally curious mind, I love to learn new things and share with my circles, for us all to evolve. I'm both an Educator and Creative, so there will be a variety of content and discussion topics on my pages/platforms, for many to engage with.

Very powerful video!! I am 90 days in w/out twisting my hair and it has not been easy because you get so use to twisting!! But I told myself I would only retwist every season.. So I will embrace this Journey. Thank you for the very informative video. #loveandlight

Thank you so much Nichole! Oh wow, that's amazing... that you've challenged yourself and pushed through. I love that concept of retwisting with each season - I've not heard that approach before. I appreciate you for sharing that here with me. You are most welcome. I hope my content continues to serve you well 🤓❤🌿

I have been on my lock journey for 28 years and yes, it is a journey and every persons journey is different. I have very fine duck fluffy hair that has to be re-twisted or it will just sit on my head, break off or try and run away to the loc next to it 🤣. I learned the hard way that free forming is not for my locs and had to attach more than I care to talk about to the loc next to it. Anyway, I learned that my locs will always have an inch and sometimes an inch and a half of unlocked hair at the head due to growth and change. Oily scalp so I wash my locs every three weeks, re-twist every 9 to 12 weeks. Moisturize once a week. this works for me but it took time for me to get where I am today with my locks. I learned to oil my locs when they are wet cause they do love the water and a little oil keeps them soft and supple. If I oil them when they are dry, they will stay dry, drawn in and look crazy. For those who want thicker locs, it all depends on genetics. How many hairs grow on you head determines the thickness. You can't change that so, get over it and love what you have. I love my locs!

My first set of locs was 2008. This is my first set.. 2024. I've learned to let it go, more than I ever thought I would. Enjoying the process and the journey. Looking in the mirror and loving it.

Hey =) Thank you. I really appreciate you for taking the time to watch my videos and enjoying the content. Welcome new subscriber! I took a break from posting content but will be back soon to share more and updates, which I hope you like too. My loc anniversary is on December 16th, so we're close. I'll be 3 years this year. Understanding unravelling and retwisting was one of the best lessons I learned early on, as it help to manage my expectations better.
