I have a 10 year daughter with locs and she hates to have them retwisted. I'm a hairstylist so it bothered me at first, but now that I see how beautiful they are, I'm okay with just shampooing and moisturizing.

I’m so glad you warmed up to not retwisting...I know it can be frustrating managing children’s hair. I think as long as your daughters hair is healthy it shouldn’t matter if it’s freshly retwisted or not

Sadly, we have been "conditioned" by other black people to think our hair is not fresh or neat when it is not retwisted. I don't think I have ever heard a white person ask "oh girl when are you going to twist your roots" smh

True and unfortunate, I don’t think it’s out of malice, I think we’ve all struggled for so long and we have always been expected to look a certain to be accepted by society at large. It’s not easy doing away with stereotypes we’ve been cultured to practice

Just because you personally haven’t experienced something negative from another race about “unkept” locks doesn’t mean others haven’t. And I can speak on this because I seen and both heard stories about it . ALSO nobody can just pinpoint it solely on just black people or whatever the cause may be cuz it’s universal all around.

I retwist very sparingly. I have a new strategy to just do a braid-out twice a month to stop my roots from marrying. Nothing but oil and water for maintenance, ACV every 3 months, normal wash once a month. Das it🤙🏾light, tight, locked 🔒 down💪🏾

My hair is actually more dryer with going longer without retwisting which actually gives me more volume and puffs but my hair is naturally softer so it feels unfamiliar to me so I make sure I add moisture every other day instead of 3-5 days when its retwisted. As of now (6 months in) my hair seems to be locking better. I washed it and didnt retwist on purpose and I love it but I do seperate them daily to prevent tangling.

My hair is coily and fine and tangles so freaking easily (which is a good thing for dreads) but that also means my locs try to marry so fast. But I love the look of frizz and volume over the scalpy retwisted look. I never comb my hair when i retwist. I just interlock loosely or twist around a bit

What is your opinion on thinner locs not being retwisted? I have to say that I'm not as diligent with moisturizing my scalp as a non-retwister, and is probably the reason for my thinning roots. Gonna change up my game to see if there will be any changes.

I may need some help!! I’m 4.5 years in and I retwist every 2-3 months, only putting into a ponytail “style” after each retwist so it doesn’t unravel (my hair is curly). I attempted to not retwist during 2020 and I had more breakage in the middle and edges, this is following the same hair routine of castor oil once a week. What are some good tips to reduce the hair breakage during a retwist break? Thanks!

Hello hi! I’d actually stay away from castor oil, it’s not really moisturising and our hair needs a lot of moisture. I have a video on how I moisturize my hair and what I’ve discovered to be the perfect oils to prevent breakage! Please check it out! I think it will be great help

HELLO😀 I GUESS AFTER YOU ARE FULLY LOCKED, YOU CAN SLOW DOWN ON THE RETWISTING, BUT YOU MUST. BE AWARE, THAT YOUR HAIR WILL COME TOGETHER FROM TIME TO TIME, SO YOU MUST SEPARATE AT SOME TIME😀 CAUSE MY HAIR STARTS JOINING TOGETHER AT 1 MONTH, ESPECIALLY AFTER WASHING AND AIR DRYING😀 EVERYONE DIFFERS FROM THE NEXT😀

I actually dislike the new retwist look. I look like a bald eagle. Lol I prefer when my hair starts to look old. But when I don’t retwist my roots after awhile I feel like my locs are starting to mess up and thin.

If you have 4c hair you can not retwist as much....softer hair will break.

Question: So you don't retwist but how often do you wash your hair? Every 2 weeks? And what do you do after your wash?

  • @MissKobeli

Hey hey! So this month I’ve been washing my hair every two weeks, I’ve been experiencing some issues with dandruff, as the seasons change but normally once every three weeks or month if I am moisturising my hair like I should. After washing my hair I do my moisturising routine, please check the video out, that helps restore the moisture stripped out of my hair by the shampoo! If I’m feeling fancy I’ll do a braid out. If not I let my hair be like how it started in the video

@@MissKobeli Ok, Thank you! I'm about a year into locs... And as you mentioned in your video I do notice a little thinning at the front from retwisting consistently every 4 wks. I will try going longer in between as my locs mature and try out your moisturizing routine. ❤️ Thanks so much.
