Returning My Bike To It’s Home Santa Cruz UCSC is the MTB Birthplace to my Megatower/ Hero Loam Day!

Last time I was out here in these parts of Santa Cruz, was when I met KZreadr’s Mo & Hannah from Awesome MTB & we all rode and had a blast... tho my GoPro failed me hard in the wet weather & dead gimbal batteries didn’t help either..🔋 😂
Those days were the Dawn to my KZread channel starting and all the struggles and trails/tribulations to getting my channel going has gotten me this far, & now I’m finally back here to see if I’ve learned anything since way back then... spoiler alert.. 🤫
I wasn’t super stoked on the low lighting and shaker footage in spots, so it was hard to decide if I really wanted to put the vid out.
Sometimes we gotta remind ourselves why we ride and do what we do & today was one of the most fun days we’ve had all year! So for me I think it’s worth sharing for the story at least, even if the footage wasn’t up to par in my eyes. The story always wins over perfect POV footage in my books 📚
Happy to have come back to UCSC & gotten to ride with some incredible people! We even helped those who were in need when we stumbled upon some fellow mtbers struggling on the side of the trail.. The Kid who had a broken collarbone was able to get out of the woods and to the road safely to be picked up and taken to a hospital 🏥 so we were happy to help!
~All in all I’m thankful we were able to come out and make these memories that we can cherish for a lifetime ✨🤘🏼🚲💨

Kick ass dude! Although mailboxes is only mailbox, I was told originally it was called red mailbox when a red mailbox was there on the road and the landowner found out so he changed it to a blue mailbox and so then people would just say we’re gonna go ride mailbox.

@@sebastianjeanes2145 Nice! The 5010 is a super fun bike! I’m a big bike fan myself kUz I like to race enduro, but both my Megatower & the Nomad climb and pedal extremely well for big bikes & they are super fun playful and agile given their intended use! Can’t recommend them enough really, if you want a big bike they don’t disappoint 😎

Thanks! One of the number one questions that most people who don’t watch my channel often ask me..where is this.. It’s pretty easy to Google search UCSC trails.. but you can always check my Strava also (Jay Wood) Tho I wouldn’t recommend riding here without a local or someone who l ones these trails as it’s always easy to get lost at new places of your just going out on your own 🕺🏻 👌🏼
Do all of these trails cut out from behind the tanks? I know how to get to mailboxes but I am not familiar with any of the other trails. Sick riding btw
How were the climbs? Love seeing trail karma like this and helping others in need. Bummer the stabilization didn't work in the shade. Which camera are you using?

Climbs are just climbs to me anymore.. think we did just over 4000ft this day, & it wasn’t a grueling 4K so that’s good🤘🏼 As per usual I’ve been using the Hero 7black

Nice! With your Float X2, how much travel do you have with and without the Cascade link?

Because I’m running the 57.5mm stroke shock with the Cascade link it’s 166mm rear travel & +5mm additional Chainstay length. Without the Cascade link.. 160mm travel of course. Love the way the bike feels with the link!

@@bike_somm noice! I have the super deluxe ultimate and was wondering if the float x2 smoothens the high speed "chattery" stuff going downhill. Was thinking about trying coil, but I watched your vid about the super deluxe coil being less poppy/playful. I'm assuming because the x2 is an air shock that it'll be poppy, but does it smoothen out the high speed chattery stuff similarly to a coil shock as well?

@@mjyu6510 Yea those are all pretty accurate assumptions of my bias opinion of course.. I’m sure some people may love the coil or some coils may just be better than others.. but the Super Deluxe Ultimate Coil I tried just made the bike feel pregnant compared to the air shock I had.. the X2 is almost like a coil tho for sure! It’s much softer and smoother throughout its entire travel.. giving it a bit more of a bottomless feel too! But that X2 feels a bit heavier and less playful poppy then the Ultimate air shock.. so it’s a nice happy middle if you didn’t want to go coil, tho the clicks and settings are much harder to learn and take some serious time dialing in.. sometimes the wrong way before the right way

Hey I’m not sure on any of the trail names.. as they are all different depending on what people call them.. I’ve only ridden out here maybe 5 times so I still don’t know everything this place has & most of the trails I’ve heard are illegal 😏

Lol.. there’s no way I can type how to get there as it’s hard for me to find it even when I’m out there! Sry, try asking some locals when you see them, some are cool 😎

Those were all standard Hwy 9 trails (except for MB).
