    At last! Got it working on my SONY Trinitron. Merci! Retrogames look so much more "High-definition" on these CRT's ! In my case -RP3B+- I didn't have to swap the Red and Yellow-cables. But both game and sound where running extremely slow at first.. If this occurs to you, add the following line to your /boot/config.txt: audio_pwm_mode=0 Another challenge remains, to center the screen, atm it is leaning towards the left.. That is probably also a configuration thing :)

    [edit: READ MORE FOR SOLUTION] hi, I am using a raspberry pi 4. I get a black and white image that is too blurry to read anything. I live in Europe so I definitely need PAL encoding so I chose that on "sdtv_mode=2. Still it looks like it's outputting NTSC. How do I fix this? [solution]: TRRS to RCA cable pinouts are NOT standardized at all! Mine had the video and ground pins inversed resulting in such a weird image. That could have easily result in damage to the TV. I sacrificed an old hands free headphone cable and made the connections according to this order, from the sleeve to the tip: Video, Ground, Right, Left. Now everything works as expected!

  • @sharmashivanand
    @sharmashivanandАй бұрын

    Can you go into the details of why the yellow goes into the red? If my memory serves right, and if TRRS goes in the sequence of Audio-audio-ground-video respectively then raspberry should support the cable naively.

    I'm not sure why I still bother to try, after looking for the right cables for a long while, I managed to get a picture over composite on my CRT TV with my Raspberry Pi, but it's very obvious that the video is being upscaled and then downscaled again for some bizarre reason. Stripes and checkerboard patterns on 240p Test Suite get completely garbled by all that double scaling shenanigans.

    @gcolombelli

    6 ай бұрын

    @@hustlinOverLord I still have to give it another try, I'm a little busy on other projects right now, but that's something I should definitely come back to. What are you using on your config.txt file on the boot partition, by the way? Did you set vc4.tv_norm, sdtv_mode or both? Have you tried messing with framebuffer_width and framebuffer_height options? Did disable_overscan had any effect on your output? These were the last settings I've tried for 240p output. It worked, but I still got those weird scaling issues. disable_overscan=1 enable_tvout=1 sdtv_mode=0 sdtv_aspect=1 sdtv_progressive_scan=1 I'm not entirely sure if the problem lies there or if it's somewhere else, a good candidate might be the /opt/retropie/configs/all/videomodes.cfg file on the main system partition. I've found different people recommending slightly different settings for 240p output... things like: lr-snes9x = "NTSC-4:3" lr-snes9x = "NTSC 4:3" lr-snes9x = "NTSC 4:3 P" But after trying a bunch of different combinations, I still have some very weird artifacts that I think may be the emulator scaling it to some resolution I have no clue about, then the system scaling it back to 240p.

  • @gcolombelli

    @gcolombelli

    5 ай бұрын

    @@hustlinOverLordupdate: didn't fix it, but took a few screenshots and they were all saved at 640x480, while that ROM usually generates images at 256x224 or 256x239 resolution. Running the same ROM on the MiSTer and taking a few screenshots gave me pixel-doubled 512x224 and 512x239 images that while stretched, didn't have the weird scaling issues I got on the Pi. I'm not sure if the problem is that the Raspberry Pi composite video generation circuit can't change the pixel clock and video timings to closely match different video game consoles, or if it's able to, but no emulator support changing those settings, or if the emulators do support it, but not on the default settings. That's quite a deep rabbit hole to dive into. TL;DR: the Pi is upscaling it to 640x480 and those artifacts are the result of non-integer scaling.
