Man it would be cool if 8bitdo made a leverless controller or a dedicated fightpad. I'd buy it so quickly

@@Polomanart The problem is that I think they want the M30 to be their fightpad. For instance, they have "Perfect for fighting games" in their marketing for the wired Xbox version.

Oops! Called it SNES but actually the design of the other model is the western released NES. Which one would you pick up? Reply below~

Neither mate. It's a bit big and pricey compared to others. I just picked up a Fantech in Bangkok, 60% size style to play Tekken 8 on my Rog Ally. It's got the red keys, which are smooth. Half the price of the 8bitDo. There is so much competition out there appealing to many different wants and needs.

I'm not the biggest fan of clicky switches but 8BitDo providing a hotswap PCB for this keyboard is really nice. Pretty much any MX style switch should fit in. Really solid value for under 100 USD. Budget keyboards are so good now, it's actually kind of insane

As someone who was thinking about using this specifically for Project Diva, I never expected anyone would actually mention that in a review. Respect.

My favorite 8BitDo product. I bought the Fami Edition (featured in this video) back in August. I had no idea how good the Kailh Box V2 White switches and dye-sub PBT keycaps were going to feel until I tried this keyboard, and they feel so good that I don't want to type on anything else. I recently tried going back to my older HyperX keyboard with Cherry MX Red switches and standard keycaps and there was no comparison. The 8BitDo Retro Mechanical Keyboard blows it out of the water. My typing experience on it has been a nice balance between tactile feedback and smooth typing. Even if you don't want this particular keyboard, I recommend getting Kailh Box V2 White switches and dye-sub PBT keycaps for whatever you're currently using. Also, I love the look of the Fami Edition. The N Edition is fine for NES nostalgia, but the deep reddish brown on the Fami Edition adds a touch of class that I haven't seen in any other keyboard. 7:45 Yep, I use my super buttons as a copy/paste shortcut.

Since the C64 and IBM ones came out I finally got one. They're going for a distinctly different aesthetic than keyboard feel. Aesthetically these all target the mid-80's but the keyboard is built like something from the early 90's. This is good because save for the IBM, none of the originals were very good keyboards. This is better. The firmware could be better. It doesn't really have a conventional function layer option, just a layer toggle for whether the custom layout is on or off. The toggle is not a dealbreaker but this thing would be a lot more useful if I could customize both layers. The default layout is needlessly nonstandard with the B and A buttons doing nothing instead of Right Windows and Application key

The Famicom one makes more sense than the NES one (not the SNES :P), as the Famicom actually had a keyboard add-on for "Family Basic." Of course, 8bitdo is making even more versions for the C64 and the IBM Model M. I honestly wish the system It's worth remembering that both the keyboard and the Super Buttons have hotswap compatibility (both 3 and 5-pin MX-compatible switches), meaning you can switch to a heavier or lighter keyboard switch. I personally recommend Kailh box navy switches if you really want the super buttons to have some heft in your buttons. Honestly, I wish 8bitdo would come out with a full layout or 1800 layout version. I'm kinda getting tired of every cool keyboard being a small toy keeb.

the US style layout of a small enter key is called ANSI versus the more international/EU/JPN ISO layout (although japan seems to have a lot of unique layouts in general I believe the enter key is usually the same?) I remember ISO being a lot more popular here in the states on very retro PC when I was a kid lol

  • @InJeffable

The first PC I ever used (back in the early '90s) had a keyboard with the ISO layout. It was definitely an adjustment for me when everything started shifting to ANSI and I no longer had a giant Enter key.

Never seen a keyboard with ISO layout in the States, though I'm sure you can get them. You might be getting them confused with the old layout, called the "Big-Ass Enter" in keyboard hobbyist circles.

They recently made a wireless numpad that's integrated with windows or can be used like a normal standalone calculator too also made in same style as keyboards so it looks nice. I bought the keyboard just for that because I quite like using numpad occasionally wouldn't go without one.

I've never really been one for the NES aesthetic, the white and grey look just isn't to my taste, however I've really liked how the famicon styled keyboard came out. I've been in a constant state of "will I, won't I" on buying this keyboard for a while now, but I know one of these days I'm going to crack and grab this keyboard. The red on white of the console is very striking and came out very well on the keyboard, though I do wish the gold of the famicon controller was used just a little bit more. It's not a deal breaker and most likely would've easily become too overwhelming if if the gold was used more. Still though, considering the famicon controller was all red and gold, it's a shame the gold couldn't get worked in just a little bit more. I think the only thing that I dislike about the keyboard is the lack of a numpad. I know that there are some separated numpads that I could hook up to my pc, but it sucks the keyboard itself doesn't have the feature. That all being said, I'm loving how "analog" this keyboard looks. The little switches and protruding LED light (plus the clickety clackety of the keys) really does make it feel different, more tactile, from all the other keyboards I've been looking at. Hopefully if this keyboard ever gets a future revision it will add the numpad to it (maybe the numpad itself could be plugged into the keyboard where the super buttons go. It could possibly add to the analog look of the keyboard in that way, plus I think we can all agree that 8 giant buttons is a little overkill and most people will likely only use the two big ones for a short bit of novelty)
