Retro Dailys EP5 Vauxhall Viva

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

On this episode of Retro Dailys i go once again back to Stoke. I am meeting a guy called Darryl (AKA Slash) with his Vauxhall Viva.
Darryl has been driving the Viva for 2 years and he is on a provisional meaning his dad Darren is also along as he cannot drive with out a supervising adult.
Darryls Daily has had a lot of work done to it which has been inspired by classic american hotrods. The Viva is exceptionally clean and we take a good look around the engine bay and the rest of the car before Darryl takes me out for a drive.

Top man! Love the car! My first car was also a HC Viva 1256cc and I passed my test in it! It was rare even then in 1997. Special place in my heart, I ended up buying another one years later and still have it. Awesome man, well done for keeping her on the road!

cheers dude! its an ongoing resto but my first car also, they make brilliant first cars i can now confidently jump into any car and drive it away whereas before i got mine i was taught to drive this modern seat ibiza and rely on all its electronic gizmos haha

Love the old Viva GLS brought back to life, a load of fun. A bit hard for parts, look to Canada 🇨🇦, New Zealand 🇳🇿 and South Africa 🇿🇦 ( the later known as Chevrolet Firenza Can-Am )❤

Those 1256 engines would crank out 80 bhp with a Bill Blydenstein stage h3 kit which is the highest stage you can get. That engine in your viva with the strommie cd150 side draught carb is good for 69bhp. Same output as a 90 series 1159cc unit. My apologies if that took the air out of your sails, pal. The engine and gearbox sound great for a car that age. The gearboxes are the weakest link with those Vivas.

you sir would be correct! if i remember rightly (few years has passed now i can barely remember what i ate for breakfast haha ) 80bhp was a guess based off the other vivas and chevettes on the club pages turns out at the time of this vid it would have been making around 60bhp, now a few years on i did a full engine rebuild with new everything, had the head skimmed etc stage 1 race clutch and a nikki twin choke carb so its now pushing somewhere between 70 and 80bhp still not anything impressive but for a 700KG car it pulls well and keeps up with modern traffic and has been my daily driver since sept 2016 so has been a reliable old thing too haha

where are the videos of your car? oh wait.... i know its not perfect and its not meant to be, its an ongoing restoration used snow, rain or shine so when i'm doing bodywork the matte paint is easy to touch in, oh the whole car was also painted using rattle cans through winter in a open driveway in freezing conditions so if you can do better be my guest.....and for the record it has now been featured in magazines such as street machine so the "Nice paint job!" must not be that bad

58BHP. Be careful what wheels you fit. The Viva HC takes 4” PCD wheels , so 100mm PCD wheels will cause the studs to come out eventually. I had loads of Chevette / Viva spares but I threw them out in 2016, sorry. You could have had them.

appreciate that cheers dude! yeah aware of the pcd differences so do keep an eye on them however no problems as of yet, rear drums slide on and off really well, currently running slot mags on it and switch between those and a set of cragar ss wheels :)

It's funny how hp can vary between markets! In Australia, the 1256 engine was used in the Holden Torana from 1972 to 1975. Holden quoted 62HP with the Solex downdraught jug. I dunno where they got their figures from, 58 sounds more like it!
