Retro Dailys EP17 B2 Passat

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Hello and Welcome to a mental episode of Retro Dailys!
This episode I meet up with a lad called Shaggy, he shows me around his shed of Volkswagen (his words not mine)
Shaggy is a rebound breaker of cars but has been enlightened by this B2 Passat. he actually loves this car. Its mean, its loud and it suits Shaggy down to the ground. It may have water logged floors and homemade roof rack but he truly enjoys this car and I for one believe that is what is most important in a car. Its not just an A to B machine ,It has life and the more personality you give it the happier you will be with it.
I cover my ears as we go out for a test drive and cling on for dear life, only to find that this thing doesn't at all feel dangerous, its actually rather comfy for a car on coilovers. I don't feel like my life is threatened when Shaggy takes a bend or puts his foot down. meaning that i could fully enjoy the experience.
and what an experience is was...

The combination of the looks on both their faces is priceless. One looks like he'll fall asleep any minute and the other's almost fearing for his life when Shaggy opens it up in the street 😂 When you asked for 1 thing, I assumed you'd be asking him to put his seatbelt on though. Love the shape of that car. Seen one this week im Austria and now I want one...

The engine is mounted longitudinally because b2 passat came with all wheel drive as well, unfortunately not in the UK.

These things are called Santanas in China. They were one of the first mass produced cars in China, and are still a common sight here today. It can be considered the crown Vic of China, it was used by the police, taxi drivers, driving school, etc. These cars are well known here for being incredibly reliable and long lasting. They produced them from the nineties to 2012.

Is there any contact info for shaggy or his friend that done the conversion? I have an 80 engine loosely in the engine bay of my b2 passat, but the sump appears to foul on the subframe, and the mounts are different from the 1.6d engine.

Just found this vid. Best source of info is probably the retro b2 passats group on facebook. facebook.com/groups/1636100500007248. Somebody on there may know him, the car has been within the enthusiast scene for at least the last 8 years as thats when I first saw it.

@@rodneyhchef1 thanks dude, I'll check it out. The engine is still in limbo sitting loosely in the car without mounts.
