Located in northern Nevada the Carson Valley sits between the eastern Sierra and Pinenut mountain ranges. The Towns of Gardnerville, Minden and Genoa make up the bulk of the area's population. Founded in 1851, Genoa was settled by Mormon Pioneers in what later became the Nevada Territory. The population as of the 2010 census was 939.
Minden is the county seat of Douglas County and is located adjacent to the Town of Gardnerville. It was founded in 1906 by Heinrich Dangberg Jr. who named it after the town of Minden, Germany near his father's birthplace. Minden had a population of 3001 at the 2010 census.
The Town of Gardnerville was founded in 1879 by Lawrence Gilman when he relocated the Kent house from Genoa to a 7 acre tract of land on the East Fork of the Carson River. Gilman had purchased the land from homesteader John M. Gardner in whose honor he named the new town. As of the 2010 census the town had a population of just over 5600 residents.
