Rethinking sculpture and connecting people to nature with wearable art | Sevan Garo | TEDxChamonix

Artist Sevan Garo casts a momentary fingerprint from the surface of a glacier, preserving one of the most transient forms of the natural world.
Glaciers have shaped and defined our landscape for millennia. Sevan tells us how the rustic and powerful items of GAROGOSI are created as "wearable sculpture", aiming to connect people to their landscape and to further the conversation on climate change. He tells us how he came to this from large-form sculpture, sharing his story of overcoming accidents in his art practice to form something new. Sevan Garo is the founder of the Glacier Jewellery brand GAROGOSI.
By moulding directly from the surface of a Glacier Sevan preserves a momentary fingerprint from the surface of a Glacier. Having shaped our landscape for millennia, they now shape his rustic and powerful items of jewellery - locking forever, one of the most impermanent forces of the natural world.
