"Retail - A Mockumentary" (Short Film)

Inspired by television shows such as "Parks & Recreation" and "The Office," come into Films & Games Lot where you will meet a variety of associates who are on the verge of losing their jobs since the store is going out of business. This was made for my Digital Filmmaking 2 class at the University of Central Arkansas, and I'm extremely proud of the final product. I would like to thank all of the cast & crew members for helping me out, the company Entertainmart for allowing us to film in there, and for my family for helping me out to produce the film. I can't thank you guys enough!

Mockumentaries will always have a place in my heart in the application of film making. This was an awesome watch.
Ive been wanting to do my own Mockumentary Office styled thing for a while and i searched for some inspirations. This takes the cake. I woudlnt mind seeing more of these characters but oh well. Really funny and well put together!

I work in retail and can verify that a ton of uneducated consumers have absolutely no concept of Value. Example: I scan 3 items, then I tell the customer the total is $12.46. Then the customer asks "$12.46 for what?" And I have to point at the 3 items they're attempting to purchase but the customer just looks at me because they don't understand basic addition. Sometimes I feel like I work in a preschool for the mentally handicapped.
Ok, but can we talk about that tableau at 3:36?! Like a work of art!!! COME ON SYMMETRY!!!

This is amazing
I still come back to this cause it’s so well done. And after sitting down and watching Parks and Rec (hot take: Parks and rec is better than the office lol) the influence from P&R really shows. Sometimes I wish this was an actual series cause I actually really like the characters you guys have made and everyone does a fantastic job. Something tells me I’m gonna keep coming back later on lol

Nathaly Moreno was a Great female lead! Dawn Huynh Le was my favorite! And for Kara's sake, I wish I were Sebastian's Dad! I would go into that store Right Now looking for her even though it shut down 5yrs ago😆 Thank you- Graham Vowell, cast, crew and everyone who made this possible! Bravo!🥀
This is great! Well done to the cast and crew. Mockumentaries are incredible formats for character revelation (showing not telling), and dichotomies and incongruities which makes them so funny (when done well). This was really well produced, and the store location gives it great production value! How did you secure the location? I love to imagine you're all nightworkers at that store, and when the bosses have left in the evening you all whip out your scripts, and cameras and start filmmaking. It looks like you all had a great time too, nice work!

First of all, thank you for the kind words. Second of all, me and the girl who plays Kara used to work for a company called Hastings. It was basically a store where you can rent and buy video games, but it also had a cafe to go hang out at, a vast selection of comic books and graphic novels, and a whole bunch of other awesome nerd stuff to buy. The company went out of business in October of 2016, but the store that I worked at was replaced with an Entertainmart. I caught the distract manager at the right time and asked him if it was OK for us to film there a little bit during the day and one overnight shoot, and he said it was fine. And it was fun everyone who helped me, but it was kind've a stressful roller coaster ride for me since this was a student film made for class. I'm actually the guy who plays Derrick in the film because I not only wanted to write and direct it, but act a little as well, lol.
