    I find it difficult to summon the energy to wash my car when it's just a bit grubby, but give me something like this and I'll happily spend a day or two getting it nice. The transformation is just so rewarding. If you can measure the voltage directly at the output of the alternator rather than the battery, which will let you know if you have a problem in the wiring between the two. If the alternator output is still low it may have a failed diode in the rectifier pack or could be as simple as a sticking brush.

    Great video on the Coupe Mate! *You solved the problems this thing had like a champ!* This thing was so easy to fix, it just wanted to go back on the road. Shame you can't find these things on junkyards anymore. Because an interior and engine bay detail with a junkyard red front bumper and she would be mint again. Beside from the rust on the back arches. It shockingly failed on that yesterday. But you already solved that problem and now it has a fresh MOT. Some filler does miracles. Can't wait to see the next video!

    tip for pouring oil, turn the can with the opening at the highest point as you start to tip and pour, there will be no gulp of air and therefore, no sloshing dollop of oil. Once the pour is steady and centered, gently spin the oil can over so that the can is on its side. Glad the battery was your problem concerning the rev's. Brushes in the alternator will improve as surfaces clear, but you really want about 13.4v or more at mid revs for a healthy output

    Little tip, when you put plugs back in be careful not to knock the electrode gap closed as you drop them into the plug wells. Also, don't worry about a larger battery - it won't over power the car/starter. The car will only pull what it needs from the battery. Great job massaging the wipers back to life!

  • @furiousdriving

    @furiousdriving

    4 жыл бұрын

    With this long drop you almost can't go off centre with the plugs, not like a V8 or the W123 where they are right at the top, mind you these electrodes took some force to move! I always prefer to go a little over size if a battery will fit, gives it a little more cranking power when its cold

    Good luck with the MoT. You need to get under the scuttle and lubricate up the wiper linkage as it's suffering from corrosion due to sitting for so long which is causing it to bind up. The charging light showing up could just be down to the electronics needing to re-learn their parameters after sitting with a dead battery for so long. I'll bet that, if you check it after you get back from the MoT, it'll be charging a lot better...

  • @furiousdriving

    @@furiousdriving And a bit of driving so the ECU can re-learn should help even more. I used to have a VW Golf GTI with the early version of Digifant and you got pretty used to this sort of thing as it would go slightly insane every so often so you'd have to disconnect the battery for an hour or so to wipe the memory and then let it re-learn its parameters again...

    I think you might have a chance with this, it seems the other channels (apart from the Rover) are all losing points before they even start. The Celica is over 100k miles, the Civic was owned before the challenge started, the Renault loses points because it's a Renault (so would a Peugeot, Citreon or Fiat). I would have said the Celica is likely to win but they haven't really shown the condition and I don't know the penalty for being over 100k. Good series though.

    yes so you can signal while changing gear, but your reasoning is not totally the case as some (most) manufactures cater more for left hand drive versions (if they sell more lhd than rhd of the model), it being on the left is so you can signal while changing gear in a left hand drive varient and they just move the same stalk assembly over to the right for rhd :)

    Errm.... why exactly did you jack up the corner of the car with the oil drain plug on it, so that the oil in the sump would run away from the plug and all the old sludge at the bottom would not run out and therefore stay in the sump and cack up the nice new oil and filter ? Would have taken 30 seconds to remove the axle stand and drop the trolley jack to let it drain properly..... Unless I missed something ?

    Instead of fishing through dirty old oil for the sump plug just use a magnet.....that engine is rattling it's nuts off after the oil change. It sounded like the oil was to thick and causing a top end rattle. There's now way in a million years a cable tied battery should pass mot, if the car rolls over its game over. If the car has sat for years then the tyres and brakes will be shagged also.. there was enough mold on it to grow a tree ..

    The rules say ‘restrained’ and it is, and the strength of cable ties is actually incredible. It’s sat about 3 years and the tyres aren’t original, no OEM fit Chinese no brands! Engines always sound bad on voice mics as they pic up the wrong frequencies and exaggerate the top end and ignore the bottom

    To be honest, the difference between 5W40 and 10W40 is negligible. They are both oils which reach 40 level viscosity at operating temperature. The only difference would be during the first few minutes of warming up, which on a low mileage engine wouldn't count for much.

    Spotted the clutch hydraulic fluid reservoir the moment the engine was revealed. The cap is a major pain in the behind to pop back - truth is, mine is held onto the reservoir by duct tape even this very moment. So be prepared to 'toy around' with the cap as it is a horrendous piece of design.. or just let me know how you managed to do it, Sir. Suppose it still has an 'Alpha' descendant engine by the looks of it - if the engine is a bit worn, follow up on the oil levels regularly. Mine sips oil in the city, but not on the road - either a seal around the valves gave in, or the gasket around the sump is non-existent and oil somehow dissipates (no puddles no nothing under the vehicle). Lights are funny; fog lights are differently available until the high beam is on. (I reckon my back foglights are off otherwise) And my aerial is bent, so I'll have a hard time once I get a radio into my car .. the envy :D Don't sell it if you can afford it, just give it some love, it will stand up to it.
