I knew a girl at this treatment center I was at who overdosed and as a result from that had seizures and sometimes she would wake up looking for the color green and just really delusional... I would always help her through her seizures by making sure she didn’t hit her head on anything and putting my hand under her head or sometimes holding her hand that way when she wakes up she’s not just confused and by herself and she would help me through my extreme panic attacks

I agree with you talking to the patient and trying to alleviate concerns is the best method and should be used first. But if that doesn't work you have to stop the patient from harming themselves or potentially harming someone else. You escalate slowly unless it's a really dangerous situation to where you have no choice for safety reasons

I had a similar experience happened to me. Thank goodness I wasn't restrained restrained. So I got really really sick and it made my muscles really weak I'm used to being independent and I was a fall risk. I would try to get up on my own and my caregiver was with me the whole time. My bedside nurse at the time was talking to her and but she has said that they might have to end up using some form of restrained otherwise I'm going to fall. My caregiver is from Lebanon this will come in later. But my caregiver is like no there's no need to do that we do not have to do that and the nurse asked if she had any other ideas to keep me I'm getting up. And my caregiver said that she has an oud aka Middle Eastern guitar that she's been meaning to give to me in her car and she would take the time out of the day to teach me how to do it and the teach me from Eastern songs and if for some reason that didn't work she would keep me busy by helping me work on my Arabic which always works. My bedside nurse agreed to see if these two would work and lo and behold they did. First we spent a couple of hours working on my Arabic then she gave me my present and I with learning how to play it from her. They would get me up to go walk at least 4 times a day sometimes more but whenever I couldn't go walk I would just play my instrument. I was in there for about a month and after the second week of being in there I got to the point where I could play bear Spritz and adoption two of our songs in our Eastern Community every time I played my instrument or every time we worked on my Arabic getting out of bed was the last thing on my mind I went from being the patient that would try to get out of bed tell the patient who would be playing Eastern music for the nurses since I go in there every 6 months to a year one of the nurses always refer to me as the Mediterranean Music Man

I remember don't in hospital for cancer, I got stuck in a bed in a ward overnight waiting for transfer to the haemotology ward. I can't Remember what type of ward it was but the person next to me had lines in her and he kept pulling them out, he could have bled to death but it does consume the time of nursing staff. I remember the doctor and a couple of nurses coming in and restraining. They made sure he couldn't reach the lines to pull them out He was tied down hand and foot to the bed. I think he may have been mentally unstable hence the need to be restrained

If a person is a risk to endangering others I understand restraints are nessacary as a LAST resort after all de-escalation tactics are used. But if its just because they are at risk of falling, harming themselves, refusing treatment, etc I don't think it should be allowed - everyone has free will, if someone understands they may fall and chooses to get up anyways you can help convince them not to, give them things to do so they won't want to get up but if they do anyways that's on them, no one should have their free will stripped. Same thing goes for a patient trying to leave, forced medical intervention is UNETHICAL.
