I don't know what's particularly army about it, but when I was a kid we all had one of these with that great big spike on the back which we assumed was "a thing for getting stones out of horses hooves". No one I knew ever used it for that. :)

Nice restoration. This is the version of this knife which I wish to obtain, with the bottle opener at the rear of the can opener. I wonder if the blade was originally a lambsfoot blade, as per the usual. The tips sometimes get snapped off by injudicious use, prompting the reshaping of the blade to a spatulate spear.

@@ReXtorer Yup! Some of these were made with spear blades, but it was mainly First World War versions. Some of those also had 4" blades, making them intrinsically illegal to carry nowadays in Britain. I'll stick to the 3" versions. Perfectly adequate for me.

I still have my pocket knife, Marlinspike et-al, from serving! But I ain't allowed to use it because the last time I did (about 10 yes ago) I all but removed the top of my finger! holds it's edge beautifully! My missus just looks at me whenever I take it out of the draw... DON'T come running to me when you finally lobb your finger off... Damn you'd think she didn't trust me or somfink!??
I think this knife is from the navy since it has a marlinspike. I don’t know it the army one had one
👌👌👌👌👌👌👍
Це може бути ніж моряка. Колись бачив відео, де пояснювали, що оте "шило-переросток" використовували моряки, щоб розв’язувати тугі вузли на такелажі.

How did you get the snap back in the blade?
Wow

We called the Jack Knives in my youth.
Nice restoration however it was Royal Navy issue not British army, the spike was for splicing wire or rope and the blade for cutting it, the bottle/ can opener is pretty obvious, I was issued a similar knife in the RN in 1975 but the hand grips were metal and the bottle/can opener didn't exist.

The Royal Navy and British Army used almost the same jack knife, the only difference being that the RN version usually had metal, but not plastic grips of the same knurled style. Your issue knife would have had later flat grips. I still have my Grandfather's WW2, RN (made by Rogers, Sheffield) issue knife.

What is the purpose to use sunflower oil? For what?
Curious that an ARMY pocketknife would have a marlin spike which is something you might expect to find only on a NAVY knife.

It is not a marlin spike, it is called a" fid," and is used for splicing small diam. ropes. a marlin spike is much larger and is used to splice large ropes. "ex Sailor."

@@scotty5340 I was taught that a fid was always made of all wood, the marlin spike was all metal and the pricker was a metal spike with a wood handle.
The knife's lock is broken and you don't fix it, you simply polish the blade and reattach the rod.

The spike is for working with rope and separating knots. Its not a bloody push dagger so stop pretending it is please. I'm completely bemused as to why you think a welding brush and acid is going to "restore" a carbon steel MOD clasp knife. They came with a parkerised finish to stop rust from taking hold - you just removed it and the surface hardening. Taking a heat gun to it just destroyed the heat treat as well. Just why on earth are you using a hammer all the time? also - the scales are bakelite. Scrubbing or chemicals does nothing to bakelite. That knife was never meant to be shiny. You just turned a good knife in need of a diesel bath into a piece of shit that will rust.

@@Khabirov88 Contrived restoration is getting old. Especially when the "restoration" destroys a WW2 RAF clasp knife. The IWM have pristine examples of what they looked like in good condition, my brother had the one issued to my grandfather in the RAF.
Женя знову маленька порада: коли клеїте суперклеєм-додавайте соду в ці місця. Вона одразу схоплюється і створює шось на кшталт полімеру, який легко шкуриться і відновлює тріщини та ритвини
