Over the past 25+ years as a conservator, I've come across plenty of interesting and challenging projects that require creativity, tenacity and humility to complete. But in all of the obstacles I've faced, none has been as heady as this faceless painting.

yup, my partner tried it. Her first therapist was an old man who made some very questionable statements about asian women in reply to her issues (an asian woman). The interaction made her cry afterwards. She tried again a few months later and found a female therapist who was a lot better, but that first experience should never have happened.

This got a lot more attention than I ever expected so I wanna stress that I hate to be that guy-- youtube is a tough business and virtually none of the common sponsors are exactly good. I don't begrudge anyone on here trying to make a living, just the companies that offer poor services or products. I pointed it out this time because of the greater potential for damage coming of of bad therapy (as opposed to like, someone selling kinda crappy earbuds) and because I know Mr. B has a successful conservation business and a long standing partnership with Squarespace already, so I know I'm not ruining an entire livelihood, and that makes this a better time and place to get the word out. So, no offense intended by this!! I love your work.

@@XYGSteve a bit, but then if the museum pays too low, the conservator will likely look to setup on their own, in partnership with another conservator or look to move to higher pay... but on the flip side, many museums hold historically and culturally significant works which you probably dont want to put in the hands of the conservator you found who will accept bottom level pay for... meanwhile a private conservator may have a hard time finding clients with realistic budgets to restore what may often be, at least moneteraly lower value works..

The company has promised to do better in the future, but with such a big break of trust over such a sensitive business model, it is clear that questions remain. Combine that with general criticism of the idea of online therapy, and criticism from clients about unprofessional therapists etc. that weren't part of the FTC investigation, and it's not surprising that the accusations continue. I'd say that not enough time has passed to tell whether they'll honestly try to do better. Would I work with BetterHelp as a video sponsor if I had a KZread channel? I don't think so, not right now.

We never just make stuff up when data is missing, even when we're 99% certain of what should be there because we can never be completely certain. In our case, our clients really need accurate maps (I mainly make maps for mega wind and solar farm installs) to get planning permissions, to know what access they have, to know what is there already, to know what they'll need to purchase, etc. We just don't nessessarily know the original feature as we don't know the orignal intent of the artist (in this case, the artist is a farmer putting up fences deep within rural America, but you get what I mean)

I've recently gotten my portrait art returned to me, still being in highschool and whatnot, and i took your advice with the eyes being the most important part, starting there and making sure to emphesize on them. My art teacher complimented it so much, saying she could feel the soul & emotion in the drawing, something she mentioned others couldn't do easily and I couldn't be happier. Many others having complimented it as well. Basically, thank you for teaching me unintentionally, the importance of the eyes of a person across many of your videos. You're a great teacher, again, even if unintentional. I bet this face will be no different from your usuals, a masterpiece without straying away from the original artist's vision as much as physically feasible. Also YAY!! A thumbnail with pink arrows! Julian, you are spoiling us, TWO videos in a row with vibrant pink arrows?? (This one's more akin to a smidge cooler light carmine imo, but I obviously could be wrong. I'm not a color expert, nonetheless, very pretty choice.)

No one asked for my 2-cents, but I’m gonna throw it in! I absolutely agree that giving out personal info is “scummy”, however, I will say, I’d much rather know that promoting some type of mental health “help” in which someone could potentially see it here & decide that it’s worth it to them to seek that help, is much more valuable than not promoting it. Is someone less likely to experience something of this nature with individual therapists’ who have their own practice or work within one…probably, but it is potentially something that could happen in that setting as well. For instance, if one lives in a community that is well-connected, “everybody knows everybody”, you can almost bet that at some point, someone is going to break the rules & discuss something they shouldn’t or perhaps tell everyone they know that “so and so came in to talk to the therapist “. Imo, that’s just as bad, if not more so, bc the latter affects the person on a level that can’t be “forgotten” anywhere near as quickly bc everywhere you turn, someone knows your business. Maybe this sounds nuts, but as someone who once couldn’t bring myself to seek the help I so desperately needed to the point that I considered un-aliving myself several times, I had no idea how to even go about seeking the help. It sounds like bs, but 20 yrs ago, ppl still talked about mental illness with a whisper. So, transgressions aside where BH is concerned, hopefully they do better now & those needing help can get it without worry, but I don’t feel like throwing something like that out the door so folks become even less trusting of seeking help is the answer. For some, it’s life or death--& in that moment, who gives af about personal info being given out. Their life is worth more than worrying about that!!

@skully6223 Unfortunately, selling people's information wasn't all they've done, and incompetent therapists can be very harmful to the very people they are supposed to help. I suggest searching "BetterHelp controversy," and taking the other things they've done and likely still do, into consideration. They could really, irreversibly harm vulnerable people with their unethical practices. People who are already suffering. It's cruel and dangerous.
