Great work doc.💯🏆
Sweet fix bud
Interesting! My Tony- USCG just looked- he has a 1978!
Great video! :) Apparently the backsprings break when you open opposing blades to 90 degrees, putting full tension on both ends of the spring at the same time. (You actually do exactly this at about 7:45 where you say "I don't know how they broke the spring." 😊...where you have the main blade at 90 degrees and work the punch blade back and forth)... notice the tension on the opposing blade is about double when the blade that shares that spring is at 90 degrees; here is how the spring breaks. It's a design flaw in my opinion, but that's how they made these. It's best to only open one blade at a time, or if you're needing to open two blades (I have to open the bottle cap/screwdriver blade before my can opener blade can be opened, it's just too jammed in there otherwise) then you want to *fully* open the opposing blade, releasing spring tension on that side, then open the other blade; it'll be easier to open that opposing blade when it's counterpart is fully opened... so opening them half-way, at 90 degrees at the same time on each end is presumably why these springs break.

Thank you for sharing this tip.
Camillus knives are decent. I'm just a Casexx man I guess....😊 Then Schrade OT's.....Camillus and Boker after that I suppose. But, I get really excited to see a good find of a Casexx...
Fantastic job……. Great talent it’s not easy fixing them old broken knives 😊
I have broken two, 1977 and 1979. I figured out how I broke them. The back springs break if both blades on the same spring are opened halfway simultaneously... Now, I only have my 1969 left.

Thanks!! I haven’t seen those.
I picked one of these up out of a ditch. I did not notice at the time but two of the springs are broken and the blade is bad. I noticed I have an old paint scraper that is of the same thickness as the spring stock. hmmmm.

Hello Knife Doctor, I have a question for you. Can a slip joint pull be adjusted. Every Rough Ryder I purchase is a nightmare to pull open. I have 2 new RR's the Appaloosa series and can barely open anyone of them. Would cost more to send back. Ive been watching you on you tube. Fun to watch you save knives. If you have a minute I'd appreciate some advice. Thankyou.
