That Coast folder is sweet! Coast Cutlery Co Portland OR in its Early Days had knives and hatchets made for them by Western’ Boulder and Camillus/ schrade’ . Probably by mid 1970s all Coast products were China made. USA Coast knives are kinda scarce. I have a Leather stacked handle hatchet by Coast from late 1950s made by Western States’

When I was in high school in the late 70s we were perpetually broke and we found Ortleib's beer at the local liquor store. It was $5 a case when Bud was about $12 a case. It had black and white pictures of "Joe". It was the worst tasting beer I have ever had but it was strong. My friend and I were the only ones who could choke it down. The bonus was that nobody ever asked to bum a beer a second time LMFAO. A couple years later in college we could get a quarter keg of Genesee Cream Ale for $12. That wasn't a bad beer.

Bear and Son makes some great traditional knives, plus modern stuff and are affordable compared to other US brands but not sacrificing quality. SMKW released some new Queen knives, "Made in the USA" and I believe Bear made them. I think Remington knives are made by Bear now.

I live about 20 minutes from the Bear cutlery. Once a year in November they open up their factory to the public. You can watch them make their knives. They have about every knife you can imagine available for huge discounts 80% off, parts, blades, handles etc. it’s one of the things I look forward to every year. An interesting thing at their open house is the knives that they make for other well known companies are available at the discount. It was eye opening to see how many companies that they made knives for!

Like that SABRE Barlow, I also have a Barlow, a USA made Imperial, that is in pristine condition, but the cheap plastic handles fell off. I want to disassemble the knife and replace the handle scales with either brass or aluminum, and then I want to use ROUGH RYDER red pick bone handle material to make new handles for the knife. You can buy a nice set of bone scales from ROUGH RYDER to rehandle your knife for about $5. I think the part that will give me the most trouble will be cutting and shaping the nickle silver bolster pieces. Trying to make them symmetrical might be a tad difficult for me. I have no artistic abilities.

instead of soaking the knives in oil to remove rust, first try a stirred up mixture of baking soda, and vinegar! let this mix remove the rust first before you wire brush, or oil? Can't hurt trying this old mixture out!

The only way to attach new scales to a Clam Shell knife(tabbed on) is to glue it. Or you could take out the blade pins, then put the pins Thorne new scales and blades. Just depends how much you want to do with it.
