    Ironically, I, too have an MX-5B which I bought second hand (4th owner, actually...) and love how it handles. I'm really glad that you were able to get soooo close to your "need to have" price for it, as it means you'll continue doing this series!! Brilliant!!!

    How does this pass the MOT, given that twin airbags was standard spec on all NB models and the car isn’t MOT exempt yet?

  • @creamthelapin

    @creamthelapin

    6 ай бұрын

    It may be a bit of a grey area and at the tester's discretion but the most important thing is ensuring that any system(s) related to the removal of the airbag is/are dealt with, i.e. dash light must be put out. The basic premise is if the system is not there, it can't be tested, and therefore the vehicle cannot be failed for its absence. Somewhat related, a car I imported a few years ago passed its MOT with one of the brake light bulbs put in backwards, so it was very dim: Still technically functional! The MOT test actually has quite a few holes you wouldn't expect. EDIT: In this case if what you state is true, even though technically the car could be failed for missing original equipment, in practice the MOT tester's probably gonna shrug it off as 'Eh, it's an old MX-5, whatever' because it's so close to the year of mandatory airbags and because of the type of car it is... that is to say, other car enthusiasts are likely to turn a blind eye. :P

    While I enjoy watching the guys working on the cars the whole idea that this is some sort of business just stumps me. To say the whole business model is flawed is a huge understatement. The concept that they somehow need to double their money to stay afloat makes no sense whatsoever. So one week they buy a 1500 quid motor and they need to sell it for three grand. So that week 1500 quid profit is enough to pay 5 salaries and garage rental. The next week they buy a 500 quid scrapper that they need to sell for a thousand? So miraculously that week 500 pounds is enough to pay salaries and rent? It makes no sense. And don't get me started on the 5 days gimmick. They're chucking out cars for a couple of grand that they could get much more for if they only spent one more day on the bodywork. And as for an "honest" finish, and "patina", when did rusty panels and holes you can put your fist through actually become a thing?

    Why would being gay matter? It’s never stopped me from enjoying working on cars. I agree that the quality of work is very poor; for example failing to clean out and treat the inner sill rust before plating then leaving an uneven seam on the repair, but I don’t get how being gay, or not, is relevant. Help me out.

    UK cars are so cheap. It is almost unreal how cheap cars are there. Steering on the wrong side highly limits the market so also the price and what i've heard the UK hates cars so there is absurd number of different limiting zones, taxes and insurances. This one is like 1/4 of its regular price of pretty miserable condition car. Like 1/6 of a good condition car here in continental Europe.

  • @bobstirling6885

    @bobstirling6885

    8 ай бұрын

    You have heard a load of rubbish....second hand cars in the UK are a hobby and almost religion for many, we do not hate cars and the emission zones actually exempt older cars which also have no MOT requirements and minimal insurance. They are cheap because there are many around and they are easy to work on, RHD makes no difference as export of used cars is pretty rare from any country unless they are rare classics.

  • @jiwik731

    @jiwik731

    @@bobstirling6885 In this show are cars with few dozens of pieces on the road so there are not many on the roads but yet are cheap. And yes RHD makes a big difference on LHD market. The prices are about the 1/3 or 1/4 less for RHD cars even with less km. I was looking for 350Z and price drops on this cars are massive. The same for Evo VII or any WRX impreza - let alone Sti. And the hatred of cars was aimed for UK as a government. The taxes, insurance and limitations. For example parking in London.
