Thank you Alexandre for sharing!
“Waiting for the tip to get glowing red” had be dying 😂. That’s just my humor.
As a DIY enthusiast: I love how you restored this axe! As an axe maker: I hate how you made this axe I think that’s a great piece to show off your creativity. We all like different things and this is definitely gorgeous!
I admit it I love restoration videos. Having any tools and too some point having enough skill and time to restore/build anything meaningful is one set goal I like to hit. Also I like Alexanders background music choice, great fit and good vibes overall
The beginning is like watching an episode of Norsemen :P
Cool to discover new Norwegian makers!! :) I live 30 min outside Oslo myself. :) Looking forward to more videos.

Flokroll Projects Ås. Almost finished with my own 36 sqm heated workshop. 😎😎
That hole will make it easier to replace the handle, but it will also cause that wood to corrode a lot faster. It also makes the axe weaker. You can't do hard use with it now. Taking weight off the axe would be a plus for travel, but that just means you have to swing it harder.

Another great video !!!
That's a unique look, but I like it!
You got some ability on that band saw.
I found a really old axe at my great grandmothers place as a kid, (probably 150ish years old judging by the shape) I restored it recently, 20 years later, and the steel it in is just ridiculous....I tried using a file to clean the edge up, the file didnt even scratch it. Old scandinavian steel is just fantastic.

well it depends on how nice of a file you are using. if you're using a brand new made in china file you could expect that.
Very good job!
I think it looks great!

What a satisfying video
That's really cool! I'd like to try this, but maybe a smaller hole centered over the wood line so the hole is exactly half wood half air. I think it would have a really cool symmetry and look nice. This thing though... it looks like a stylish beast! I love it! Great job again! I'm so glad I found your videos the other day and subscribed!

What use is rust remover if the whole surface is full of huge pits and you are going to grind it anyway?
I love your videos Alexandre. But I cannot help but feel a bit sad for Flokroll Projects. You mentioned several times that you'll link to his channel in the description but you didn't and that would have helped him a lot, since he has a smaller channel than yours. And since videos on youtube make the most of their views in the first few hours/days, I guess it's kind of "late" to add it now. I would still add it since he does cool projects as well. Anyway... you're a rising star on youtube! Keep up the good work. Maybe you can do a Q&A sometime soon :D

Is there a reason why you didnt get the rest of the rust off?

Yeah, cuz it looks cool.
Have you ever heard of the stuff called evaporust? You can basically pour it in a plastic bucket and leave anything really really rusted overnight and it gets rid of almost everything
Nice
Hi Alex. Maybe this is not the place, but I maybe have an idea for a video you can make. "Ways to use junk pieces of wood and the wood dust" There is some ways to make those trashes valuable. For example - you can use wood dust to absorb liquids on the ground and then sweep it - mix the wood dust with some wax to make solid fire starter If you burn dust or pieces you can also use the ashes to - make soap - use it as fertilizer for plants that need an alkaline ground I'me pretty sure there is plenty of other ways.
Instead of rust remover, I use electrolysis. Then most of the rust is converted back to iron, and almost no grinding is needed 👍
@achappel

Electrolysis is nice since it can't be overdone. However, the time needed seems to be proportional to the surface area of the piece. And axe head needs a few days in my setup...
@jesperwall839
4 жыл бұрын
Bbonno You just need more power. I usually use a car battery with a charger attached. A brake caliper is done in like 12 hours, and that’s about the same mass as an axe head 👍
Cool axe. The handle probably won’t last long though.
Best video ever :D I am ready to swap axes any day now :D
I love the hole gives it a Viking look good job
Is it just me that watches these type of videos to fall asleep
thats not a crusty laye of oil, thats seasoned cast iron cookware :P
Special guest: Ivar the Boneless with a bag of axes. What could go wrong?
Reposting my comment from your acoustic panels video from october to increase the chance of you seeing it, I think it would be a solid video idea: This was awesome, maybe for the next upgrade try building reflective covers for your ceiling lights that spread the light onto the undersides of the panels. They're white, they should work perfectly as nice diffused reflectors. Maybe something like a v shape like this panel panel light panel panel \_r_e_f_l_e_c_t_o_r_/
Very good work, but I think that making the hole does not seem like a good idea, in my opinion that weakens the tool.
The hole is fine. Like you say, just don't strike the back... What I take more of an issue with is the glue in that eye. If you had made the slit longer, you could have just used tension to hold the wedge in, and wouldn't have needed glue. I'm sure it's strong enough to hold as it is, though, and so long as the wedge you put in put pressure on the head, I'm sure it will keep the axe on the handle during normal use.
WOW!!!!!!!
The hole looks cool I hav zero problem with it, but I hate the fact that you didn’t grind down and polish the entire thing
jaja yeah that Axe looks awesome, hey Alexandre will you make an sand blaster machine in the future? that machine will help you a lot :D
6:33 Song Matches
The hole won't mess up the structural integrity, the rust you left on it will. The hole took away the weight that the axe needs to go through bigger logs.
Alex! I seriously can’t wait for you to buy a 2x72 grinder!
It's probably mild steel for the body of the axe head and carbon steel for the edge. That means it's well made, for sure.
That's the same grill charcoal of the game My Summer Car

Creator on the rise!
Hello, from Texas! I just discovered your channel, and I've enjoyed all your restoration videos so far. I was wondering... with this axe restoration, is the hole purely aesthetic, or does it serve any sort of function (such as lightening it, etc.)? Thanks for all your hard work.
Plz a do over without the giant hole..it bothers me..smh
I don't mind the big hole in the axe head, but you using glued together oak as a handle?!?! And a the wedge was also really thin. I would be careful with it because in my experience it's bound to break... :/ It looks really good tho!

I really love everything you did to the axe buuuuuut unfortunately I'm not a big fan of the hole. And I never have seen a handle made by laminating the wood together. I have a question about the handle. Will it stay together for a long time. But all in all, I have become a fan of your work and subscribed to your site and really look forward to seeing more. Thank you for the good work.
