This is the first time I see a portable film projector all sides opened. When I was a boy, [My childhood days I spent in a very remote village, even electricity was a matter of wonder for us.] sometimes, in connection with some social gatherings, showing films in these types of machines in public places were one of the major attractions for us. On those days, I had a strong feeling to have a closer look at the unit but the operator, despite all our efforts, drove us away from the machine by saying that, that was working with electricity and therefore only he could stand nearby. Now, after many years, it is again a wonder for me to bring back such memories just because of your video. Thanks a lot my dear friend.

Don't use metal springs instead of rubber belts...It will damage the aluminium pulleys due to friction and heat... Spring belts are only suitable for low r.p.m drives...like take up / supply spool drives

very nice! do change the spring belt for a nice rubber belt as soon as you can, that will keep the projector running more silent and saves the pulley's. those films are in a bad state though, nothing you could have done, they were stored badly.

It’s actually not that hard to operate one. A 5 year old can learn how to operate it in less than a hour

I was a 6th and 7th grade projectionist using these. Was great for personal prestige and standing among the classmates (or was it jealousy and anger because I was allowed to leave classes when I was needed to show a film to kids in lower grades?). Thanks for the vid, though I was surprised to see substitution of a spring for the rubber belt.

I used to watch movies in such projectors during carnivals. BTW there was a 20 minute silent movie of a chair and a man. The chair doesn't let the man sit. But at the end they become friends. Then the chair lets him sit. Can any one please tell if it is on YT. Thanks.

that spring belt is not suitable for the transmission of motion from the engine that type of metal belt is for the transmission of motion to the arms of the spools for the engine the belt must be either rubber or leather.that metal belt will wear out your primary pulley over time.

Using a spring belt instead of a rubber belt is not advisable. It’s the main drive belt and pulley which are taking all load of the entire running gears and film reels of this projector mechanism.
