For everybody who's been saying " I WANT one",The Czechs kept those in production until the late 1960s as the OT-810..... they've been on the used vehicle market for some time..... The reenactor groups who you see tooling around in 251's are actually using these vehicles bought and backdated... Also the Czecks put them a more modern diesel engine into them. With a lot of Money,Time and some sheet metal work,you too can drive the pride of the Panzergrenadiers.....(that's if they're street legal...lol)

Beautiful restoration that sounds as good as it looks, well done. The thing I always thought odd about the SdKfz 251/7 was why the decision was made the mount the bridging ramps so high as to need extra metal framing to mount them horizontally atop the vehicle superstructure. I would have thought it would be easier to simply place mounting cleats just above the side sponsion boxes. This way the flanged edge of the ramp would rest on the cleat groove and lay inboard against the sloped hull side wall since there are no cab doors. This would lower the silhouette and provide unobstructed firing arcs for the crew, as well as providing some additional spaced armor effect from the ramps themselves when mounted. Additionally making it easier to mount and dismount the ramps. just a few thoughts. ^_^
@TheSaturnV

It would seem like a better placement, but keep in mind that those angle/wood racks that support the bridges created quite a bit of storage space within for pioneer type tools. These bins were packed with gear to get the various jobs done.
@ditzydoo4378
4 жыл бұрын
@@TheSaturnV hmmm... maybe, but when viewed from the inside 2:00 mark, or the exterior there would be no access hatches to anything one might inside the hollow area below the ramps with out removing the ramp making it a rather dubious storage area. at least for anything you might need quickly.
