Restoration Tonka Mighty Cement Mixer 1985s - very rusty Tonka Toy Truck
Ғылым және технология
Restoration of a Tonka concrete mixer. It was time to shoot a new Tonka Restoration video. The Tonka concrete mixer was very rusty. It was not an easy restoration project. But the result looks fantastic.

I bought the Tonka Cement Mixer on eBay for € 15. At first glance, the Tonka truck didn't look that bad. But when all the parts were disassembled, I saw how bad the condition is. There was a thick layer of rust under the paint. You could leave the paint by hand.
The rust was removed by sandblasting. Then the parts were dented. Holes caused by the rust have been filled. The parts were then primed by the Tonka concrete mixer and then painted.
The wheels were sanded with 300-grit sandpaper. The surface was then processed with a light flame. This gives the plastic a nice black color again.

Awesome restoration job. So glad someone restores these toys and gives them a new lease on life. Keep up the good work.
You just turned it back into a functional, pretty and safe toy without unnecessarily filling the pittings or using powder coat. It is a toy. Thank you for not overdoing the restoration.
In the 50s, our father had a construction company. He built us a huge sandbox and gradually filled it with every piece of heavy equipment Tonka made. Watching you work on these pieces brings back fond memories of the many hours spent in that sandbox with those pieces. My favorites were the crane and dump truck, though I made good use of them all. Thanks!
I worked my cement mixer half to death in the sandbox in my parents' backyard and never once realized that the front half of the drum was blocked off...dumb kid lol. Amazing nostalgia trip and a stunning result, thanks for sharing.

I did the same thing with mine! Fortunately, my parents still have all of the Tonka Trucks my brother's and I had! I remember getting the Cement Mixer for my 4th or 5th Birthday [1984-1985] and it quickly became my favorite toy. I'm glad thst one day I'll be able to preserve all those summer memories of my two older brother's and I playing in the sandbox with our trucks!
My wife thinks I’m crazy keeping our kids Tonka toys in the attic for some day…just picked one up out of a busy street that looked like it was run over.
This looks amazing. That was very clever, sanding and then repainting the faded and scratched plastic parts. It never would have occurred to me to do this.
This brought back memories. I had this very toy growing up in the 80s.
I don't remember subscribing to this channel, and had been thinking about my rusty old cement mixer truck recently.
Holy rust batman! The Cement mixer looks like it was left out in the rain for years on end. Outstanding job restoreing it.
I just can't get enough of sandblasting projects. It is so satisfying!
Almost lost me with the hand brushing/sanding but the painting skills kept me to the end. Great vid and a like from me.
Fantastic job. Looks brand new. Thanks!!!
The concrete shoot was originally black. You do really good work. I collect the Tonka toys. Wish they made them like that now days.
You were very fortunate in that no parts were broken (expensive to replace and difficult to fabricate)….excellent restoration. Best wishes and stay healthy!

ITS ALL RUST! THERE’S ABSOLUTELY NO TRUCK LEFT!!! 😳😬
Like it rolled off the showroom floor ! Outstanding work !
Sublime !!!!! Bravo. What about a BIGTRAK ?
That was really thorough!
After sanding the scratches out of the plastic windscreen, try dipping it in some floor polish, then letting it dry under a cover to prevent dust particles from getting in. Got that tip from the KZread channel, Marties Matchbox makeovers
Can't believe it turned out so well after seeing all that rust, its also a wonder that mixer hasn't cracked over time. You could try UV light bleaching the white plastics using hydrogen peroxide its what they do to restore yellowing consoles.

Yeah, it's called retrobrighting and it helped out a lot of my dad's old power ranger zord figures
Absolutely marvelous job. All that rust sure made it easy in getting the paint off. The transformation is fantastic. I wouldn't have given you two cents for that truck before it.
That would have made a terrific addition to the apocalyptic STEEL MONSTERS line years ago! (I would have called it the MIXMONSTER)
Now its good for many more years of play and making children happy
Nice work it's good to see these old toys being restored👍
The Cab and Chassis look great!!
There are plastic caps available to put on the end of the rivet set. Also a soft variety of rivet. Doesn’t require much force but should be strong enough to hold the pieces together.
I love watching these videos, restoring these Tonka trucks. my brother and I had all of them....
nice job working trucks
Now that's a rebuild. Good on you!
It's strangely satisfying how the cracked paint came off itself lol

in the USSR, I had such a toy, the author thank you for your effort
This was when Tonka was the best. Metal. Now, sadly, they went to cheap plastic. Thanks for a great restore.
i had this when i was a kid man i loved making mud in it man i would love to have my old one back
Absolutely amazing 👍🏻👍🏻
This is the 2nd Tonka truck that I played with as a kid that I've seen you restore. And yes, I still have this one, too.
A superb restoration... WELL DONE!!! 10/10
Well, at least getting the 80's paint off was easy. Good restore!
That has to be the easiest paint removal I've ever seen
I had one of these as a kid, but it was a light green color, not yellow. If I recall it also had 6 wheels. Kept that thing in pristine condition, and my son played with it when we visited the grand parents.
Stunning transformation
Man that toy looks like it just came out the box. Awsome job

Nice job it look like a good little boy is getting something special for a birthday or Christmas
As much as anything what I learned from this is that in 1985 toy models were built out of better higher grade metal than real cars
Magnificent restoration. First class workmanship. Subscribed
i owned one of these that year it was given to me great to see this one restored

I've got 4 of the Tonka trucks like this.
I’d like to know where they kept this poor thing. Mine is still in really good shape considering it’s age. Great resto! 👏🏻👍🏻

Great job on the mixer too!!
I suspect videos like this are having an effect on the "old rusted Tonka Toy market". HAHA! Thank you for uploading this video and showing off your skills. The presentation is simple, and "unobstructed" with music and "chatter". It's just raw video good for the soul!
I love when it gets powder coated
Played with those in the 50s. Had the crane, car carrier, dump truck, semi truck.
Just found this channel and o boy I actually know someone w/ this exact cement truck [needs restored] ...
Great work good sir

That truck must have been buried or sitting outside for a very long time. Excellent work restoring it!
Awesome videos. I reccomend finding a old vintage bing live steam locomotive and restoring it.
Tonka was wrapping vehicles back in the '80s.
An INCREDIBLE transformation!!... AWESOME job especially considering all the rust you had to contend with!!
Is it weird that I just want to send these guys junk, just so I can watch them fix it?

Terrific job........John
I see Andy Dufrense from Shawshank lent you his little hammer to get the job done. Awesome restoration, thanks for sharing.
the pride of the toy box.
Excellent Restoration Done 👍 Thumbs up 👍 Keep it up 👏 👏
You are best restoration 👍
Perfect tonka new truck !!! 💙💙💙
The 70's were the best Mighties.
Masterpiece ! And great perfect color acid yellow
great work on the body and tires especially. Nice upgrade on the white color for the mixer too. Really pops now. Why did you decide to go yellow instead of black on the slide at the back?
The spray paint was already cracking when fixing the metal fasteners back, maybe powder coating would be best. Also will that paint hold on the plastic? Wasn't their another option other than paint?
I'm wondering why you didn't do the peroxide and UV light trick to de-yellow and restore the plastic drum and Windows.
