Restoration Rusty Axe WHAT Is It FOR?
Hello folks! Today I want to show you my new restoration project. I found this strange axe at flea market and still I don't know for what it? For me it's so interesting, because I can't found any information about this axe in internet, if anyone knows something please leave a comment. Okay, time to restore it!
Restoration process:
I used rust remover liquid to removed rust from axe head and dirty too. Then via iron brushes I cleaned it and left and left it in its own factory color, light silver. I cleaned the fixed part and then sanding little. Handle I cleaned and sanded on lathe machine. I made little changes on handle because the round handle is not good. Finally, I used just linseed oil for impregnation of the hatchet handle. Also, I sharpened the axe head and changed the screws on the fixed part of axe. As usual made test for you.
Sincerely, Alex. Thanks for attention!
Good luck and health to everyone! With best wishes, Alex!

They came in a kit it was an all in one long term survival kit it came with everything you need to build a long term shelter in what ever habitats you may of be stuck in it had a sleg hammer pick shovel axe drift and auger and it even had nailles in the pack. All the heads where unchangeable so you could build a small house to hold up till someone could find you this kit is hard to come by now they were used from ww2 till the late 1970s most were carried by pilots in the case that they where shot down. Hope this helped someone.

It looks sort of like an American "Pioneer Tool" I have. It's a handle that comes with different tools that you can interchange as needed. Axe, shovel, pick, etc, The handle makes me think of the great Russian entrenching tools... Great job!

I've got one called "Max". Former military item. The axe blade has an eye on top at the back where you can fit a rake/hoe, a pick, and a wider blade type pick and a spade. Look around for other parts to yours. They'll probably have the same cutout key .

Dropping that ax head is why you don't wear sandals in the shop lol. Beautiful handle. Love linseed oil finish. And your humor. Thanks for keeping the rustic look of the ax head.

Dang man that’s one of the coolest and weirdest things I’ve ever seen good job looks great
Never seen an axe like that. Nice to see you got to keep the original handle. Nice work

Maybe a military hatchet with interchangeable heads, like a shovel.
I love watching your channel, every time I see a unique and beautiful tool being restored. Keep up the good work. Thanks brother.
I agree with some of the other comments below that this is a camper/military tool. It appears to be similar to the WWII shovel/pick of the late 50's and 60's. We were issued the shovel/pick in basic training in 72, and could be a combat engineers tool with multiple heads. Nicely done, sir.
That was pretty sick !!

Not sure how I missed this one!!! Really nice break down axe...love all original parts...looks brand new other than the custom grip that looks like it could be original!!!
Very interesting Axe. I've never seen one like that before. You did a fantastic job restoring it. Everything about it is perfect. You truly brought it back to life.

I have a tool similar to this that I use for day to day use. It’s a hammer, pliers, needlenose, Vice grips, and wire cutters all in one.
Agree with several commenters below - it's commonly known as a "vehicle recovery tool." Grandpa always carried a similar one that he threw into the toolbox of his old pickup truck. Had an axe head, as well as a shovel, pickaxe-type head, and a weird spear-shaped head who's use I never fully ascertained - maybe it was meant as a crowbar/"cheater bar" for prying things loose, I dunno. Wish I knew where that thing ended up...
Cool axe great job .. thank you
Really interesting axe, nice restore bay the way 👍
I know it’s a hatchet but out of all the ones I’ve seen, that one has a cool design!
Nice video again!!!💪💪💪
Great job !! . I have never seen an axe 🪓 like that. Multiple parts ???? Interesting.
Interesting nice 👌

Nice job and nice tool!
excellent
It's a multi tool it has a shovel and a saw attachment great restoration
PERFECT PERFECT!!!
nice work.. i like it..and the way you restore things.
very cool keep doing what your doing
I wonder if there were other attachments for the handle like a pick or hammer. I like the design of this one. Good job on the handle, i like that you kept it very original.
very well done
Hey love Ithe idea of using wire very cool
Great job 1st one I've seen. Love the vid
maravilhoso
good job!
Good job! Now if only you could find the rest of the set.
Looks like the same setup of a collapsible shovel they sell. I actually have one of the shovels... Neat anyway. Thumbs Up!
Damn thats a nice axe!
I'm glad you cleaned the sides rather than grinding and polishing the sides. I'd had had an aneurism if you had ground off the trademark. :-)
Okay, now! Who is going to clean up that mess in your shop? ... Just kidding. Great restoration. I wouldn't say that you maybe ''changes'' in the handle, but improvements. Bravo!
Kind of the swiss army knife of axes, shovels, picks, etc
In the military we had vehicle boxes that had stuff like that one shaft and you'd have an ax head pickaxe shovel that you can put on that so maybe it was just part of one set
I like this.
Exquisite
good job sir 👍👍👍
Nice
The handle is from a trenching tool. Folding shovel we use in the US Army. Looks like it was adapted with an axe. Pretty cool actually.
