Restoration Old Rusty TURKISH SABER Kilij
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Hello folks! Today I am restoring a very old object. This is the Turkish saber Kilij. This saber is similar to shamshir and ottoman sword. Of course, for almost 200, and maybe more years, he has lost a lot of weight, rust has eaten a lot of metal. The object was found during the cultivation of the land in the mountainous region of my country. Of course, the task is difficult, but I will try to bring him feelings. The item goes to a private museum for viewing! Well, lets start restoration!
First, I placed the blade in a rust remover, after a few hours I washed and dried it. Some of the rust remained, I removed it with an iron brush. What was left of the cutting edge, I tried to straighten and round off so that it would not cling and scratch. I cut the hilt of the saber from a thicker piece of steel and welded it.
After metalworking, he moved on to creating the very handle of the sword. The material at the request of the customer was chosen old dry boxwood, the tree is capricious, but if there is a task - it must be done. I fixed the handle with epoxy resin and three rivets.
After processing the handle, I moved on to creating a scabbard. I used wood for the scabbard, after manual processing I pasted it with thin natural dark leather and started creating brass fittings. I made the holder, the upper and lower glass.
The saber is certainly not sharpened, there is nothing to sharpen and the customer asked in advance not to sharpen it. But I did a test, and it turned out to be very fun! I hope you like it! Thank you for your attention, success and health to all!
Sincerely, Alex. Thanks for attention!
Good luck and health to everyone! With best wishes, Alex!

Sometimes when I’m making handles depending on the wood type, lightly charring the pieces partially through shaping can harden them enough to avoid chipping on the more delicate sections. Beautiful work!

Nice one. The tip part you see, is a little bigger than the rest. That’s how you spot a kılıç. But this one’s got chipped away so it was not easy to spot. By the way, if you get your hands on another one as not destroyed as this one, there’s a tip for you. When you sharpen the cutting edge, sharpen both sides of the thick tip (yalman). It is designed that way. It is thicker because it is designed to be used on horseback. You are gallopinf at full speed and swing your sword, cutting your opponent in half. And when u get dismounted, you can use the sword for stabbing since both sides of the tip are sharpened.

Wow that was a tough one Alex. Great to see your skills going to use for commission. That was tricky to get the scales right with that handle material. It looked rather fragile for the wood. As for that cabbage and pumpkin. Those are some big pieces of vegetables. Wish I had that luck finding them like that over here in MN. Good test on them. I was surprised by how well that sword did. Those veggies had no chance from your sword. The good, the bad, the diced vegetables. Insert the good, the bad, the ugly music here. Glad to see the work is getter recognized. Great work and video. What test veggies will be chopped next. Find out next video. I enjoyed this one. Be safe and keep up the good work.

@@ScrewsAndTools so did I considering on how degraded the sword was. Though I think you did great work and it shows. I agree that fixing the sword with a welding fix would be not worth it. It would ruin the look of this sword and on how the person whom wanted it to be this way. My gosh that sword was a long one. I think it's your longest sword video wise. As for those veggies. I bet they don't feel lucky right now. Stay safe and have a great day.
