    I will never get tired of watching people preserve gaming machines. Ever. In my opinion, these machines are so important. It isn't just a game console, it was very likely someone's childhood, someone's escape from the real world. Every new gaming generation is a snapshot in time; a functioning, tangible record of technological progress for the era.

The Saturn was supposed to capitalized on the growing succes of Arcade centers in Japan. Most of the games were 2D so the Saturn was initially planned as mostly a 2D system. 3D came after, because of Sony. It's because it was added to a 2D architecture that the Saturn was difficult to program for 3D games... Let's not forget that we are not talking about today's 3D too... Same with one of the controllers of which the right trigger button doesn't work anymore. Maybe with a few pointers I'd be able to repair it myself!

    WOW I had no idea you could even de-yellow old white electronics like this. I thought the yellow fading was permanent. Awesome!

  • @Rowgue51

    @Rowgue51

    3 жыл бұрын

    It is permanent. This process just essentially bleaches the very outer surface for the very short term. You don't even need the UV light strips. That's just something youtubers do to make it look like some highly technical process. It's really no different than gargling with hydrogen peroxide to whiten your teeth. The yellowing will return very quickly unless you keep the console completely shielded from light, and even then it will yellow again within a few months at best.

  • @Rowgue51

    @Rowgue51

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@hudz48 First off you would get the same result with just hydrogen peroxide, but decomposing the hydrogen peroxide does speed up the process significantly. However UV light is by far the least efficient and slowest method of achieving decomposition. He's already using electricity which is by far the most efficient method of providing the energy needed for decomposition. UV light is an alternative method of providing that energy but an incredibly inefficient and slow method that has no statistically significant impact on the speed of the process when you're already using heat and/or electricity to accomplish decomposition. It's just something companies add to their kits to make them seem more technical and more impressive; and something youtubers love to show because they think it makes them appear all "sciency". But it's such an irrelevant part of the system that it's almost purely for show.

    I wish I still had a Sega Saturn to this day because I missed out on a lot of good games for it. I mean, sure, the console didn't have that many Sonic the Hedgehog games, but it had tons of fighting games from Capcom, Sega, SNK, the Mortal Kombat series, Dead or Alive 1 and some other Saturn games that I never heard of. And the superior RAM cartridge that the Saturn had was the Action Replay Plus cartridge, which was a 3-things-in-1 device, meaning that it would allow you perform cheats in your Saturn games, save your Saturn's game data and break the region encoding allowing you play imported games on any Sega Saturn model of your choice, which was awesome and the Saturn was also backwards-compatible with music CDs as well.
