As a master tech with over 40 years experience, I'll tell you this is a shade tree job at best. The clutch assy. Is worn out. You can't just paint it and it's ok. The clearance was not checked on reassembly and I did not see the shims go back in. You can't just pour oil in it. It has to be a measured amount of the proper type. You can't use a screwdriver to reinstall the piston assembly, that's why that was cut away. I'd give this compressor about a 1 in 10 chance of putting out cold air. I'd also give it about two days before it seized. Look just because you take something apart, clean it and put a sticker on it does not mean it was rebuilt let alone restoration. Nice paper weight.

I totally agreed, this is a compressor we are dealing with here, something very delicate and cleanliness is the utmost protocol in restoring! This thing won’t even work for three minutes, never mind a few days. A proper full restoration requires inspection and replacement parts if needed, measurements need to be on par with manufacture’s specifications before reassembly, otherwise it is just a piece of junk.

@Zzst Z I think what he means is that the compressor wouldn’t do a proper compression of the Freon, hence no cold air. We shouldn’t be too critical of his writing, he could well be an excellent technician as far as I am concerned.

@Zzst Z FYI, Freon is a brand name of air conditioning refrigerant trademarked by DuPont. So it is refrigerant 100%! We casually use the name to represent refrigerant in North America here, hence the confusion.

подшипник смазал шедеврально, прям руководство к пользованию. столько просмотров , по сути того как делать не надо.

No you didn’t, this is the wrong way to do things.

The way he filled this compressor with oil killed me!🤣🤣 Seriously! Do you that there is a ratio oil/gas specified by manufacturer that must be respected to make it work perfectly? No torque specs and he use an impact gun on aluminum fragile parts🙉

Just disassembled, cleaned up, and put back together. Not a very good video in my opinion.

Restoration is taking something which is broken and replacing the broken parts, seals, bearings etc and returning it to serviceable condition. So what was wrong with the unit and why didn't you just clean the outside and spray it silver? You stripped down what was obviously a serviceable unit and threw all the parts into a bowel and 'cleaned' them only to then cover them in dust and wire wheel particles before reassembling! What parts did you change - any? How about the torque settings so the bolts don't come loose ? Or the use of thread lock? And how did it perform when you rested it? In short ... taking something apart and spray painting it and leavering back together isn't restoration. Any chance of an update - like how many seconds did it last before it failed - or if it even worked at all?

Restoration is saving as many original parts and re-working them where needed so it falls in line with factory spec or higher. Granted, some parts have to be replaced, bearings, seals, tyres, hoses, and fluids.

Restauración? En algún caso eso es mantenimiento, aunque si hablamos mas en plata eso es limpieza y pintado, no se reemplaza ninguna pieza, y el equipo parece estar en perfectas condiciones de uso, no se ve dañado ni muy oxidado

Lo del aceite es lamentable.. lo inutiliza si lo pone a funcionar así. Debe ser aceite especial compatible con 134a o R600, que son los refrigerantes más comunes en Sistemas de aire acondicionado vehicular

El aceite es utilizado solamente en lá parte Mobil , otros equipos utilizan ele aceite con gas

Did you assemble this compressor without an o-ring and a felt bowl?

I know when they rebuilt an engine they use new cylinder Linings and new piston so that the compression will hold, hey it might be different I don't know

It wasn't fine, but after restoration still got dirty with contamination and rust, that compressor will not run for too long

This is Asian restoration. If you make it look as new as possible and it works - then it's "good" But lasts a few months.

how much oil do you need to add at the end and which one? Is it the amount of oil that the manufacturer recommends when you putting in the refrigerant ? and oil is the one recommended aswell? thank you very much.

There are several types of refrigerant oil. PAG, POE, mineral oil, different weights, etc. The guy in the video just poured in motor oil, which is wrong. Compressor isn't going to work, especially with all of the worn out parts being reused. It will probably lock up in short order if they attempt to use it. No two A/C systems are going to be the same. If you want to know the correct oil, refrigerant and capacities of both for your A/C system, look up manufacturer charts for the system. If there are no charts and you know which refrigerant is being used, you can wing it and get close by using a manifold gauge and getting the low and high side pressures within the known working range of said refrigerant. Like R134a would be 30-60 psi on the low side and 250-350 psi on the high side, depending on the ambient outdoor temperature. For the oil, you'd use some sort of PAG, there are different weights. The compressor will generally specify which weight it wants. As for how much oil it wants, the compressor manufacturer will say this as well. Sometimes they come prefilled with oil, so you have to be careful to not overfill the system or you risk damaging the compressor. Things get complicated if you're converting a system to a different refrigerant, like going from R12 to R134a. Since R12 used mineral oil that is not compatible with R134a, you have to use an intermediate ester oil like POE. That is unless the R12 system is dry and has no existing refrigerant in it.

The only reason to disassemble an air conditioning compressor is to replace a broken part or more likely replace the worn out seals. If your not doing either of these things, then why take it apart, just to put it back together ?
