That was a perfectly good capacitor. Just put the dust back in it!

Send me your address. I'll sweep it up and send it to you so you can show me how to do that! Need to learn a new skill LOL! :)

With the current draw you showed and using 120 vac, I'm guessing it is about 1/4HP. Now that you have it all figured out, time to sand and repaint it to look great again... Thumbs Up!

Hi Gary. It is marked as a 1/5 HP motor actually! Being designed for lower voltage and I am using 120V it causes low power factor. Thanks for the comment and encouragement! I will eventually get it painted up and update this video series.

Wow, that old capacitor was the worst I have ever seen! Did a great job of fitting the replacement parts back in to it's old enclosure.

I tend to agree! It was the worst one I've seen, aside from those which were outright missing LOL!

Man, I wasted a perfectly good cap. Should have hooked it up to a low voltage supply and tried it again in the morning! :)

Most potential relay I have run across require mounting with a arrow pointing up. Is that the case with yours?

Thanks for the comment, Tom. This relay didn't mention any operating position in its documentation. The potential relay design balances a magnet against springs, and I am not sure how much effect gravity has on it. That would be a good test to do some day. When it comes to current-relay start devices they absolutely have to be mounted correctly! Those use a series coil to lift an armature against gravity and won't work if not upright.

Good job ! what do you think this motor was originally designed for?

Yep, as MadMadMapper said, it's from a 1930's belt-drive Crosley refrigerator compressor.

even with your skills, i would've put money on that motor never running again. and consequently lost that money. never judge a book by its cover, eh? even if that cover is made out of rust, dust, and crud.
