Restoration Of An Abandoned Beta Race Bike
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
So this week I have something a little different, its not a restoration as such but rather a recommissioning of my 2004 Beta Rev-3 270cc trials bike that I have left abandoned in a barn for years. So i thought now is as good a time as any to dig it out and show it some love.
First job of the day was to actually get it dug out of the barn so after moving a lot of wood and scaffolding i was able to gain access to it and low and behold the joys of dry storage it wasn't seized or rusted solid just a little dusty from sitting all those years but that nothing a quick wash wont fix.
So after getting the bike into the workshop and onto the lift it was given a thorough wash and then left to dry overnight. The next day i went over it with a fine tooth comb to find all its problems along with all the issues i knew that it already had, so a brief run down of its problems is as follows, wheel bearings, chain and sprockets, broken plastics, worn graphics, broken brackets, rusty hardware, worn grips and levers and the engine is leaking coolant into the transmission so yeah quite a few issues to deal with before its ready for riding again.
In todays episode i will be stripping the bike down, sorting the wheel bearings and punctures and getting the bike back into a rolling state aswell as fixing any other issues i find along the way. I will also be pulling the engine and getting ready for next weeks episode
so please enjoy.

Maybe i've been spoiled by the quality of your work, but not seeing s full strip down restoration really feels odd! I know this is only to get the bike running again, but something doesn't feel right. Still, I can't ever fault you for taking the time to make these videos, so thank you!

Haha funnily enough I feel the exact same way it just feels so weird putting parts back together that aren't as good as new but as @Clausius said im doing a little bit of experimenting at the moment to see what works and what doesn't plus i just have to keep telling myself that when out in the woods or in the quarry it isn't going to stay looking restored for long so don't even temp yourself into making it like brand new haha

The nature of the bike means it is going to be dropped repeatedly so a full restoration doesn’t make all that much sense on a bike that’s going to get used.
George is such a good worker. It looks like he also painted the spring while you weren't looking!

He is indeed, there's lots of little jobs he does behind my back haha
I am so proud of George. It's so nice to see him get through his addiction to become a functioning member of the team.
Your “tidy-ups” are as fascinating and entertaining as the full restorations. You’re a master at what you do. Thanks for sharing your work. Capturing all of it on video is quite a task I’m sure.
I love the simplicity of a trials bike. Everything you need and nothing more. Love it !

I think what i love most about trials bikes is how light everything is and i mean everything! you could pick this bike up with one arm....just about lol
I think it was better than any bike I've ever had after just the jet-wash!!!🤣🤣🤣
A great video of what the average home bike 'mechanic' enthusiast might achieve to get a bike looking fresh and back on the road without the time, money, effort and expertise that is involved in a full nut and bolt 'factory' restoration. I'm enjoying it so far! 👍
I really don't understand why this channel has not way more Subscribers.. It's one of the top 10 wrenching /Restoration Channels on KZread! Seal behind the water pump's gone. Classic Beta issue. I cleaned my gearbox with kerosene and did about 5 oil changes with ATF. Good as gold 🙂

Excellent start to the job 👍👍👍. And lovely to hear your voice again dude 😁. 😎
Finally giving George the credit he has deserved this whole time! Great video!
It's nice to see you step back and do a "Get it back up and riding" style build rather than a full restoration. As much as I really enjoy the full restorations, sometimes, it's just nice to see a good freshen up.

Great work George 😊
It's nice to see a trials bike getting some love. Great job on the shock. It's as good as you could hope for without getting it sent off to be anodized. 👌
Reminds me of watching kick start when I was a kid. Currently watching toni bou, the guy is a nutter
Awesome! I enjoyed this episode, but I was left feeling like the Joker looking at Batman's stuff..."Oh, the toys!"... I envy your spring compressors!
Seeing you applying the tyre patch brings back memories of having to do the same for the kid's bikes constantly
This brings back memories... Although I only had a 50cc Beta, because I was 13 when I got it. You'd be surprised to how difficult places you can get with it. And how much beating it could take, ie. riding up an almost vertical cliff, trying to find grip on a moss covered rock and then suddenly getting a grip and the bike doing backwards flip and landing upside down about 5 meters lower... The only damage was the broken plastic rear "fender".
Great video fantastic job nice to see you back 🇬🇧👍
Quality job as always my friend congratulations 👏👏👏👏

Awesome work as always bud.... Not quite the full-on resto we're used to but, as you say, this is a revival, not a resto!! Looks like this thing is going to fun to blast about on when it's done! :)
Rear shock looks sweet😎🤭
Great to see another episode! I rode one of these for a trials season... great bikes . The tyre could be on the wrong way round to extend its tread grip life. The blocks wear to a round edge so turning the tyre gives you a sharp edge again for grip. Not an issue for a bike that does low speed off road only trials...
@RRCRestoration
Жыл бұрын
Ah that makes total sense, I'm very new to this trials caper lol but yeah that's a great idea for extending tyre life. Any tips for a complete novice on a trials bike? I've ridden motocross for decades but now i quite like the idea of slow and technical riding.

@@RRCRestoration I am just an anateur at trials too.... All i can say is that trials are about superb fine throttle control and balance. As the tyres are often very low psi for grip you can balance at zero mph for a while... Best advice i got from my experienced buddy was just practice and more practice. I used a old rail siding with a tree at the top and just went up and down and round the tree over and over again. And also learning to wheelie at slow speeds across a field... On the tyres trials riders often bin what looks like perfectly good tyres because the tread block edges have worn and grip is much less-especially the rear tyre. Rule of thumb... One way round per season then change tyres. 👍
Good job 👍👍👍
Class as always - this is like meditation for me.
