Restoration of 1951 Vincent Rapide - Part 87 - Grease is the word

I hope you will enjoy this 5-minute-fix video in which I will be checking that all the grease nipples have are lubricated. There will be more videos to follow in this little mini series.
Here’s a list of the 10 grease nipples that I could find on my bike:
1 - Front RH Brake Cam Spindle Boss ✓
2 - Front LH Brake Cam Spindle Boss ✓
3 - Gear drive for speedo ✓
4 - Front brake balance beam ✓
5 - Front damper unit ✓
- Edit: Thank you "Dog Paw" and "DucDude" for pointing out that the damper is missing the felt washers at both sides, to prevent it from knocking from side to side.
6 - Steering head lug ✓
7 - RH Brake crossover shaft ✓
8 - LH Brake crossover shaft ✓
9 - Rear RH Brake Cam Spindle Boss ✓
10 - Rear LH Brake Cam Spindle Boss ✓
Please do let me know if you see that I missed any or have any comments about this routine!
I’m also aware that some guys fit grease nipples to other parts on their bikes, such as the eccentrics and other parts for lubrication around the headstock. This video doesn't include greasing the springs either.
Please note that this is how I approach some of these maintenance jobs so please remember to consult your owners manuals.

that front steering damper seems like it needs a bush, must knock terribly when being ridden?.

Thanks again for spotting that. One of my friends has pointed out that it is missing a felt washer on both sides of the damper. They are very inexpensive and I'll order and fit them. Cheers!

@@TheMightyGarage mmm, i don't have the felt washers fitted and would have thought the bush was shot but you seem fortunate to have enough years of accrued Vincent knowledge to draw on, All the best.

Because of the nature of metal moving parts I would always apply a thin layer of grease where metal rubs metal not only for lubrication but also for waterproofing and corrosion resistance

Thanks a lot, Andy. Unfortunately the Atlas project is at a bit of a standstill at the moment while I work on the other bikes and in particular the Manxman. I'm hoping to finish that one first and then will finally get back to poor old Shep! Cheers, Mike

@@colincoleman2536 Same here. Maybe Mike can let us know if there's a brand name on it. It could be an old factory ( Vincent ? ) tool?. If so I'll leave it for the Vincent loyals but maybe there's a replica of some type.

Hi Colin, I believe the grease gun/pump was made by a company called Tecalemit in London. The Vincent spares company has a new grease gun/pump that similar to the original but its about £30! The description reads: hand grease gun suitable for both original style 459 modern fitting for 59/1 and angled 537 grease nipples. Hope this helps. Cheers, Mike
