Good on the officer that had to deal with the basketball situation. Kids will be kids. We need so many more officers like him. Not quick to judge, was calm and respectful and tried his best to explain what was going on to someone that wasn't trying to hear it. And best of all played basketball with the kids.

He had a stellar “community policing” interaction with those children, demonstrating to them that the police aren’t always out to get you. He nicely asked them to move the hoop to a better location away from the corner and played some ball with them for a few minutes. I LOVED that he told the children that they weren’t doing anything wrong and to keep doing what they were doing, just to try and stay away from her fence. The children were very polite, respectful and made an articulate point about the complaint that the old lady had made that they played ball until late at night, saying that they can’t play too late because when the sun goes down there isn’t enough light to continue playing. I respect everyone involved in that situation EXCEPT for old lady Karen. She needs to find a hobby other than worrying about what the neighbor children are doing!

Agreed, that’s basically what I said. A million years ago when I was their age we played street hockey, no one called the police to complain! She’s just miserable and wants everyone else to be as miserable as she is. It good to see kids getting exercise rather than sitting on their butts playing video games endlessly! Let them have fun, they’re not hurting anyone! What does bother me is I’m close to her age, I’d hate to become as mean and cranky as she is! I miss seeing kids out playing on the streets, bikes everywhere, having fun…you don’t see that anymore…such a shame! And she’s calling the police to complain.

Growing up, we had a lady on our street who would act the same way toward us for riding our bikes "through" her yard. Really, it was the corner of her neighbors yard & they told her a couple of times that it was totally fine, but she just wouldn't let it go! She would watch us through her windows or yell at any of the neighborhood kids if she would be outside. TBH, I think they're just bored, lonely & maybe a lil cranky! In this case, the old lady may have been a lil racist even...

Yeah calling the cops on kids playing basketball, she should be ashamed of herself. The cops have actually important things to deal with, like criminals. Not kids playing. But this was filmed years ago so she’s probably not around anymore. Sad you hardly see kids playing in the street anymore. Maybe if less people called the cops on them for playing in the street. Then they complain now that they stay inside and play video games, the same people that complained about them playing in the streets
