***** YES, if the police car is behind them with lights & siren going, they indeed SHOULD move into the intersection to allow the police car to pass.... Refusing to clear the way will get you a $500 ticket where I live....... "Failure to yield to an Emergency Vehicle..."

They arent going to give you a ticket for getting out of the way. She was behind them with codes and honking for a good 30 seconds while the moron in front was just sitting there with his finger up his nose. Yes, you SHOULD go into the middle of the intersection if youre blocking a coded vehicles movement.

Kyle Stamps This is not true at all. Pushing vehicles through a red light is dangerous and irresponsible. Should a vehicle proceed through the red light and be struck the deputy would be held responsible. In situations like these it's usually best to shut off the siren and switch to secondaries until the light switches back to green.

Risking other people's lives to save 15 to 20 seconds is never worth it. Besides, had she been paying attention and looking far enough ahead she should have seen the blocked intersection and gone into the oncoming lane.

Wow, the people didn't even move for this officer at the stop lights / stop signs. Just move out of the way if you hear sirens or see lights! You won't get in trouble for going past a red light only if there is an emergency responder behind your or telling you to. People these days need to pay attention!

People forget how to drive when they hear a siren. My favorite example of this is one day driving the engine to a fire, a pickup truck slammed his brakes and stopped dead in front of me, and I'm pretty sure when I passed him, I heard a voice saying, "You pull me over, because I don't know what the f*** I'm doing."

not a first responded however I am a taxi cab owner and spend 12 -15 hours a day behind the wheel of my 2011 crown vic. recently I had a passenger who told me he thought he was having a heart attack. we were 3 miles from the nearest e.r he insisted we just race there rather than pull over and wait for rescue. that was the longest f ING 3 miles of my life. a former volunteer ff I learned how to respond code 3 to calls safely. with my 4 ways on and high beams flashing I raced this man to the e.r but the people in front of me apparently didn't know what flashers and a screaming horn meant! I couldn't get anyone to move out the way so I cut my own path! mind you I did not drive like a maniac but I did draw attention to myself. I got this man there in time he did have a heart attack but is recovering. so I can't imagine how infuriating it is for Leo s and other first responded with lights and sirens when idiots want move!

in the US, the law states that when an emergency vehicle is approaching, move to the side if it is safe to do so... there are some instances of which a vehicle can't move over because it is not safe to do so... however, some of those drivers just weren't paying attention...

Lots of messed up laws here in Florida regarding code. Emergency responders actually don't have the right of way when they have a red meaning if you got green you don't have to yeld. And there's the lights and or sirens for code runs. I get at night no traffic and just running the lights but when there's an Orange County fire rescue truck behind me with just lights sitting there waiting for me to actually look in my rear view mirror, we got problems. In Miami they are notorious for not yelding. Pisses me off.

And as to the question, "Why do police need to respond code to an attempted suicide?" Besides the fact that most police are at least Emergency Medical Responder or higher certified, the patient is obviously not in their right mind and could potentially attempt to harm unarmed EMS who in most areas are required by standard operating procedures to stage away from the scene and wait for the 'code 4', 'under control', 'scene secure', etc. from law enforcement before proceeding to the scene.

I see a lot of problems in this video on the part of the officer's driving and the other drivers. The officer kept getting herself stuck at intersections. And yes there were people not pulling over. I wonder if this was an unmarked car without overhead lights, it was like drivers didn't see the police until the last minute. Two things: 1. Florida driver's need to go back to school. 2. I think this officer needs to go back to police driving training again.

I'm not sure why this woman would be flying to get to a medical. You really don't need police at a medical. Unless she's a paramedic/emt along with being a cop then fine but if she's not then I don't see the need to go to it.

Maybe because that's the policy of Miami-Dade county. Calls with people having breathing problems or other life threating situations both police and resucue are dispatched. Those calls go out as level "2" or "3" which means lights and siren.

danny2tek Ok, I wouldn't know. In my community pd's only respond to medicals unless they are overdoses, psychiatric patients threatening suicide, any type of domestic dispute where somebody gets injured and of course all shootings and stabbings.

Also most police officers are trained for basic First aid, A.E.D Etc and to help someone until Fire/EMS arrives. I'd rather have someone that know basic medical stuff, then die waiting for EMT/EMS/Fire :)

Those cars @1:47 are dumb, if the drivers hold up officers it could be the deciding factor between life or death, if you have to go up on a curb or go into the intersection to get out of the way do it!!!

You still respond lights and sirens on a 2. Only difference on a 2 you have to follow the speed limit and slightly yield to traffic, which she was doing anyways.

Code 2 is using lights and sirens at INTERSECTIONS not the whole way which would be called code 3. Just like she did

Texas™ Actually it varies across the country what a code 2 response is... in my area, Code 1 is a typical no lights no sirens response, Code 2 is the whole deal, I haven't ran code 3 but i assume its ridiculous...

At 1:30, you keep using your horn as if the people are intentionally not moving. It's a red light, and they have no where to legally go, unless it is legal in your city to run through a red light if an emergency vehicle is behind you. But if it's not legal, then why did you keep using your horn quite annoyingly?

  • @mailforward4me

They should ignore the red light at that point, and GET OUT OF THE WAY....... Moving through a Red Light to get out of an Emergency Vehicle's way IS NOT against the law... Sitting there like an idiot IS, and in my area, would get you a $500 fine for "Failure to yield to an Emergency Vehicle..."
