For those wondering on what this video may be in reference to, JoCat, another KZread channel, in response to a long time of dealing with harassment, threats, doxxing, which even extended to his family, has announced that he will soon be done with content creation, indefinitely. I absolutely love this creator, and I am genuinely upset at how people ruined something that was genuinely good and made others happy. I do genuinely hope that he maybe comes back from his leave, or reconsiders it, but I do respect his decision in the end. So many people don’t understand that content creation is demanding work, especially because you deal with a massive audience, where many will wish to ridicule you, defame you, and many other things to ruin not just your day, but your week, month, year, or even life, especially if they find out something about you they don’t like, no matter the fact of it being something you can control or not. Jo, as part of possibly other comments I will make in regard to you, I hope you come back, as many good things do, but if you don’t, I understand. People were cruel to you, and you want to get away from it, as many others would. But if you do still leave, goodbye, things were good while they lasted.

A lot of who do take the time to be kind and respectful are often buried in the noise - like you, I don't use social media, or participate in many online communities because of the vitriol, and the spite and anger that seems to come from random people for no reason. As a result, their voices often end up being much louder. What kind of signal does that send to our friends who aren't yet into gaming, but might be curious? It's unfortunate how incessantly immature some people are. The best thing that we can do - you and I - is to stand up for people, spread that positivity, and be the welcoming voices in the hobby.

In the past, I have usually been able to guide students to see that they are doing some harm to others around them and they will choose to change their behaviour. This year, I have struggled, because it is clear that a large number of the students I had in my class this year understood they were hurting people, and were choosing their actions to achieve this.

It isn't so much entertainment, grudges and disdain. It is the sense of control and feeling better about themselves by comparison. Regardless of how personal the comments are, they are aimed towards the people who are easy to target and easy to form groups of haters around. People do this because they lack that control and self love in their own lives. Not to mention it is easier to suppress the bad feeling about their job, relationships or body than it is to rise above that and pursue something they can be happy about. Not just because that pursuit is hard, which it is, but because our brains instinctively prioritise avoiding bad feelings over pursuing good ones. They fear failure and disappointment from comparing themselves to others so much, they push said feelings onto others to benefit that comparison. That doesn't mean this should be condoned, or that it can't hurt you. But maybe in some small way it can help, knowing that the people on the other side don't necessarily believe what they say, they are just hurt (and choose to express that like playground bullies.)

I'm using Google translate while writing these. My English is not very good and I have a little difficulty in learning something because I have attention deficit disorder. Thanks to your videos, I can learn new information about Pathfinder and its old rules more easily. The point I want to make is that unfortunately there are too many ridiculous people in the world and if we listen to all of them, it will be difficult for us to live. I can guess your situation, maybe I can empathize, but I can't feel exactly what you feel. I can only tell you to ignore them. I have no idea about your personality, but you seem like a nice person and do good work. It may seem empty for someone to tell you not to care about them, but sometimes it can feel good to have someone remind you of this and know that you are not alone in your thoughts. Forget them, my friend. Do what you love and live the way you love. Whether you shoot a video or not. Thank you for all the information you have provided so far. Greetings from Turkey.

Honestly this is a type of video we need to see more often cause it feels like people have forgotten basic courtesy in the age of the internet. One thing I would disagree with though is the idea that these people act like this just to enjoy causing problems. The issue is people will create problems or reasons to hate someone out of a warped sense of righteousness. They convince themselves the person they are harassing is deserving of that harassment and thus their actions are justified.

Not sure what spurred this but as someone who talks quite a bit in front of other people, and use to spend hours debating "that one person", I can say that I came to a conclusion. There are 1 out of 1,000 people that are just crazy. You may not notice it much in your day to day life because you don't interact with that many people and if you notice a crazy person in real life you avoid them. So if you have say a platform where you get 10k or even 100k people in your audience, then you are talking about 10-100 crazy people that are just there. I am a huge advocate for free speech, and will never support banning people for different ideas, even vial ones though. I just take solace in the fact that the majority of the people are good people. If I convey and idea on a platform and I see 10,000 people saw it and say 10 people call me names, 100 people agreed with me strongly and the rest just didn't do or say anything, that is a pretty good in my book. Most people don' have time to type or care to, so 100 people taking the time out of their day to agree is nice. Then the 10 that say vial things, even threaten my life, are just the crazy people out there. I can focus on those 10 people and never change their minds, and probably waist hours of my day on them OR I can think that 9,990 people at least were neutral or approved of my idea. A guy once said to me "If you take your date to a park and it is a 100 acre beautiful park, your lunch is great and you are enjoying a great day. Everything seems perfect but you know some dog pooped 9 acres away. Do you focus on that one dog poop or do you enjoy everything else?

One of my fav dev companies got their books on bundle of holding. I just wanted to see fun cool game shit. I was hoping to just see RPG community support today in the holiday spirit. Instead, I see cyberbullying, arguments, hate, and so much more. And I'm tired... I've had quite a few death threat scares earlier this year from a collection of certain extremists, all over the fact I didn't like their favourite edition of D&D. As asinine as that sounds. I know how much that sucks, and how much it shakes you. I almost retreated at that point. It's NOT an easy situation. It's stupid and it drains us as creators. Especially for those of us that don't have those high population click-bait accounts. The ones hovering just within the thousands just trying to make mostly tutorials and fun videos. The ones that don't chase the drama... but it finds us anyways. There's been a few... things... that have happened in the RPG community today. None of which needed to happen. This is two main things. Bullying and Tribalism. Both going to their extremes for some... internet points. and it makes my heart hurt...

They could see if you are joking (if so) or just be able to interact with you on a level that making jokes is okay. Throwing random hate at people who you don’t know or don’t know you is really just stupid and useless.

If someone wants to hit the dislike or post how I have something wrong that completely expected and actually interesting. Being a complete hobbyist, I hope I don't get to the point where I need to deal with hate trolls. I respect people who try to make a living on here, even those creators I dislike, because it takes a huge amount of work for even a basic video. Believe me, I know. I wish I could tell you "Ignore the haters" but I know that's not realistic. I know the first hateful comment I get is going to sit with me for a long time. Exactly this. Nonat1, this very deep personal message should be applied to the entire world at large right now. We ALL know better. Most of us were taught by family or friends or colleagues how to treat your fellow human beings. It's a fact that EVERYONE is going through something. All of us. That one hateful comment, slur, smear, outright lie, can drive a person to disengage from being social, and in extreme cases, give up living altogether. It IS gross as Nonat says. But in an era where all of us should inherently know not to fling vile hate just to make ourselves (insert false positive emotions here), its surprising someone had to stop the world from spinning to tell us to be human to each other - because for someone else - the world HAS stopped spinning because the hate was too hurtful. I've been playing TTRPGs since the 80s so I am little older than most of you all. And even when I started - there were comments that were sent through intermediaries at conventions (GENCON in the 90s in particular) before social media was a thing. And now its everywhere. But I want to close my comments by saying that - first of all Nonat, you are the real deal. I've been playing Pathfinder since Beta in 2006 and my group has been huge fans ever since. And finally, the TTRPG space IS a loving and nurturing space for the most part. It's worth supporting and standing up for in the face of hate. Because we are all humans. We love this community. Let's double-down on doing the right things Nonat has spoken to us about today, and make this place more positive for everyone. Have a good holiday everyone.

the worst part is, this video is ONLY going to reach people that really wont do these things. I mean, the other thing is, that online is anonymous AND it's also going to through you into a "war". It has always been a thing where you have to handle 'bad actors', on either side of all spectrums. hat he is doing, if he can not truely ignore the hate coming at him through X/Twitter (or try and scramble his location using VPN's or other methodes {a PO Box for "mail from fans or advertisers")), then it is probablly best he take a very long break, if not indefinite (which is what it seems like he intends to do). The internet was only ever "calm" back, way back, in the early 2000's and late 90's. Hell even then, it was not entirely free of hate and rage....just had it to a lesser degree. Sadly, this has become more and more of a problem in more recent years/decades. I hope that he is able to move so he wont have to deal with any direct threats and that his family are able to change their numbers. That, and not posting any content, may be the only way to "win". I personally think, and its fine if you disagree, but people can be to hyped by others and they need a reality check on things. was he 'wrong' about posting that video so long ago, no. It dosent help that no one in his circle of friends didnt point out that it COULD become something not intended or worse, a 'rallying cry' for hate. If he had someone that told him, "Bro, you are a great creater and that vid would be awesome, just be careful. You know how NUTS the internet can become and how things can get missused. If you need any help, Ill be there bro." Hopefully he fully heals and is able to go on and become an animator with a name for himself in the industry (unless he has some other degree I dont know of). Good bye JoCat, you will be missed.

I quit a "friend" group partially due to this sort of behavior. Two or three of them would mostly pick on one of the others. [their name] sucks. It was a constant saying. It was fairly annoying but they had all been friends for more than a decade or two. I eventually said something along the lines of, "If you guys treated me the way you do them, there is no way I would continue to hang around you guys. Some of them were a bit surprised, as they thought they were just kidding around. I told them that a jab here and there is one thing, but you guys are relentless and it's every weekend we get together. I think this spurred the other player, as a couple weeks later he eventually stood up for himself and told them all he was getting sick of it and that if they didn't stop, he would stop coming to game night. It stopped, for a bit, then started right back up some months later. One of them had a so-called "habit" of saying a specific racial slur and I told them to stop and when they started saying it again I told them if they didn't stop they were out. It stopped for over a year, figured it was over. We finished the AP I was running and we were roughly halfway through one of the stand-alone adventures when the bullying and racial slur slips and other problems started happening more and more. The bullying was so much so that when one of them got a new place, they made a plague for the WiFi password that read, [their name] Sucks1234 and had it hanging on the wall. It got to be so much that I would wake up with headaches and a feeling of dread that I was going to GM for these guys. I started canceling games and due to my own cowardice and just not wanting to deal with it, I put off telling them why for about two months. When I eventually got on our discord to tell them what was going on and that I was sorry for how long it took me to finally tell them, I was at first told it was all good, that we're all adults, and that we just need to talk about these things so they don't build up. I thought things were going to be ok but I was then greeted by being cursed out and gaslighted that I was the one bullying and constantly putting them down by Accidental Racial Slurrer and WiFi Plague Guy. When I constantly asked to the nature of what things I was saying to put them down were, I was never answered and only cussed out more.

The internet is one of the best and worst things ever invented. It created an avenue for trolls to just be trash to each other simply because "haha PWNED!" And this is coming from someone who WAS that guy. I used to play MMO's and the 3 largest guilds on my server voted to ask me to leave because, while I was good at the game, I was a giant asshole. Thankfully 19 year old me grew up. I made a comment on a wholesome video like a year ago about how blessed i was to be a stay at home dad for awhile. A full year later people go to this super wholesome video, find my post and try to insult me and my manhood for daring to stay home and raise my kids. All based off of a 3 sentence comment. I can't imagine what people with popularity go through. My 10 year old wants to do youtube with me and I think we're going to starting in January. But thankfully I can gatekeep the comments from him as I don't let stuff get to me like it would him. I've had random strangers pick up my spirits when I was trying to drop some weight, and I've seen people go out of their way to knit pick stories they know nothing about just because the internet gives them that power. People are great, but the shitty ones unfortunately have the loudest voice.

Most mortals are reeling from the latest crisis (and are WOEFULLY unprepared for the ones coming...) and to make matters worse, most are forced to work through that pain while holding three jobs and stuff... The """chief economic system in place"""(tm) wants desperately to either use these people, outright get rid of them or just ignore them. Either by banking on their pain or selling the false concepts of """normalcy""", """elitism""" and """exclusivity""" to everyone else. The "cures" are simply not good for the Haves' bottom-lines. Where do the ostracized go? On the Internet, it's the easiest place they can project their sad, broken thoughts on folks... just... being. I'm not saying there's an easy way to deal with them, in fact, quite the opposite... Best of luck to all the creators out there (including you, fellow lighthouse)! Thank you for your service!
