Resolving Anxiety and Trauma through the Nervous System | Somer Nicole | TEDxBorrowdaleWomen

Dr. Somer Nicole TEDx talk addresses the issue of chronic dysregulation most humans experience in the nervous system, which is often a result of unresolved trauma. Through her 20+ years in the therapy world, she shares personal stories, clinical experience and practical wisdom on how to unfreeze and strengthen the nervous system. The impact of applying this somatic (body) wisdom is the restoration of overall health and vitality, so one access joy, confidence, creativity and purpose again!
Dr. Somer is a Somatic Therapist specializing in her Somatic Reparenting™ Method and Nervous System Regulation. She is a Safe & Sound Protocol Provider and studied under Dr. Stephen Porges. She helps one increase capacity and resilience in the nervous system and rewire the effects of trauma. Dr. Somer is also a Doctor of Physical Therapy, a CranioSacral Therapist, SomatoEmotional Release Practitioner, Reiki Master/Teacher, a Kundalini & Hatha Yoga teacher, and specializes in Pelvic Floor recovery. Somer is passionate about helping people holistically heal and empower themselves at the deepest level. Find out more here:
www.somahealingcollective.com... Dr. Somer Nicole started as a Doctor of Physical Therapy obsessed with getting to the root of people’s pain. When she realized the psychosomatic and nervous system components were missing from her western science education, she spent over 17 years filling in the gaps, which led her to trauma resolution work to address the root cause of people’s pain and nervous system dysregulation. The overarching umbrella of all her work is regulating and strengthening the nervous system because we have to be regulated for every system of the body to heal. Dr. Somer created her own body of work, the Somatic Reparenting MethodTM, where she integrates Kundalini Yoga, Somatic Therapy, Inner Child Work, Energy Medicine and the many modalities she’s studied to update the wounded inner child and rewire the nervous system. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

POWERFUL: “Healing is not about never being triggered again, it’s about developing a responsive nervous system that can go effectively in and out of these states.”- love this I’m so inspired by this talk- i guide women through somatic womb healing movement practices to free up stuck unexpressed emotions- and have also seen my clients have incredible results when they feel like talk therapy has been helpful but lately feel stuck. Your articulation of the nervous system and polyvagal theory is gold. Thank you, Somer! This is brilliant.

My favorite part of this video was when Nicole says "This is all so you can access joy and confidence and creativity" as she touches her heart, solar plexus, and sacral chakras. Not sure if this was planned, but to me it just spoke to the fact that she is a a woman who embodies what she's sharing with the world. Big mahalo for sharing this huge topic in such a succinct and accessible way. I pray that many many people watch this video...may it spark their healing journey.

That song is the one I dedicated to my son at the age of 10 when we danced at my second wedding. This talk left me in tears. I felt so heard without speaking to you. Everything you said is what I am going through and wanting help with. I have been through doctors, counselors, therapist, ect... since I was 15 and I am 48 now. I have been told for years i am too much, to emotional, to loud, to everything. So I was always fearful to do anything until my body explodes with energy. I am so hopeful for this to help me. Thank you

As a parent to a young child, I have become very aware of the importance of helping my child learn to regulate their emotions. However, you cannot do that until you learn to do that for yourself and create a safe space for co-regulation. Dr. Somer Nicole has condensed so much information into one talk and included a very practical daily application. Committing to listening to one song a day and moving your body could be a great resolution for us all in 2024. Thank you for sharing your expertise with us!

Driven with passion to get to the truth, and to be on the other side of pain, has led Dr. Somer to discovering these essential tools. The more we discuss the issues of trauma openly, the healthier we will be individually and as a society. Having survived extensive trauma in the womb and through all of my childhood, this subject is important to me. Dr. Vincent Felitti's work on childhood trauma was the start of my becoming aware. A huge thank you to all who care enough about this subject to tackle it head on.

Such a good experience and an example of how we can get in touch with ourselves. It takes so much searching to get to the bottom of many of the chronic illness we have today. I like how this speaker is saying that we can sometimes find more answers if we look inward.☺

Greetings from Hunedoara, Romania. Congratulations! I'm Erwin, and when the weather changes, that's when my end comes..., in other words, I feel the sudden change in temperature, from cold to warm and vice versa, like fog, I can anticipate the weather forecast through intercostal neuralgic pains. I want to write to you that I had a respiratory virus when I was 20 years old, but as a small child I had "nerves in my stomach", as I explain in a simplified way that anyone can understand. I would like to ask you what you think happens when the weather changes, because only when the weather changes do I have these manifestations, mood changes, anxiety, palpitations, even from the wind blowing irregularly. Do you think it's about the autonomic nervous system, sympathetic/parasympathetic, only, or also the vagus nerve, and what exercises would you recommend?! Thank you very much. With respect and honest friendship, Erwin. 🤗
