And as an 'investment' this is the bottom line when it comes to parking! If strangers are parking in front of your house because they 'honestly' have no where else to park... that's a problem! Most true VISITORS are there for no more than say 4 hours and they leave, but fellow Homeowners think they can make the space in front of your house THEIRS!

i use to live in a small town in texas, this old lady went to a city council meeting to complain about "speeders" in her neighborhood. the police stepped up enforcement and increased speed patrols. a few weeks later the SAME old lady came back to complain about receiving a speeding ticket for going 29 in a 20 MPH zone... these people are crazy!

@@lavneh4670 If you live in homes like those pictured in this video and you have 5 cars, I'd say that the problem is you and your family, and not the local government. These homes have garages that can probably fit 1-2 vehicles, though perhaps none at all if one owns one of those oversized pickup trucks or SUVs. And that's your problem, not the city's. The laws were almost certainly written at a time when your average car could easily fit into those garages and people didn't own 5 cars to a single house. And it seems to me that it's up to the homeowners to adapt and obey the laws, and not the city to ignore the laws that are on the book for good reasons.

My stock Chevy Avalanche wouldn't fit in one of those garages(To long/tall). It would also not fit in the driveway without being over the sidewalk,or between the driveways on the street. Glad I don't live in an urban fuster cluck like that. I'll take my 5.5acres in Central Florida any day,over one of those over priced postage stamps.

Yes it's very dangerous. In my neighborhood we have had ambulances not be able to get through in emergencies so the HOA started enforcing people parking on the streets. Park in your driveway not overlapping the sidewalk or park on your garage. That's what they are for!!

Yup all that money such as property tax, Utilities, insurance for the house, mortgage payments, loans, and still not enough the city still wants more money out of people. Wow it’s getting to the point where you have to buy your own land outside of the city to satisfy them.

Some cities in So Cal won't allow cars to park in their own driveways unless the vehicle is behind the front wall of the house. I live in a 200+ condo complex and about 20 years ago, very few cars parked along the curb on the street. Today, cars are not only parked along the curbs in front of the complex, but now encroach into the neighboring single family home streets. IMO, it's just the sign of the economy where more people are living in the same amount of housing because many cannot afford a place of their own.

@@altha-rf1et I park in my assigned spots in my condo complex. At one time I had two boats and a travel trailer. I rented space at a storage yard for the boats and the trailer. Now, I'm down to just the trailer. The parking in the driveway thing is actually a county rule but some of the cities don't enforce it.

When you park across the sidewalk your blocking the walkway for the disabled where are they supposed to walk in the street? People need to think about others needs .

@@shots2 The cars are so big that, when they park on the driveway, they block the footpath. That is unsafe for pedestrians and kids. That is the reason for ticketing (and not only for parking on your own driveway, but the complainers don't tell the complete story...). And maybe, it's forbidden by law to park in the driveway? All the houses on the video have big garages. Why don't they use them? Full of trash?

So why don't people park their cars in their garages, what's the point of having a garage if you don't use it for your parking needs.

You can see at about 1:24 that the sidewalk starts about 3 feet from the street, and is about 30" wide. That means about 6' of every driveway on that side of the street can't be used by the homeowner. You'll note the other side of the street doesn't have a sidewalk. It's pretty common. You've got to weight the right of the 5 people who actually need to use the sidewalk (which was likely expropriated from the homeowner) against everybody else's right to use their property. This is clearly a case of bad planning, and I would put money on it that the sidewalk came years after the homes were built.

Sidewalks are an easement and the homeowner has no legal right to block them. What about the handicapped person in a wheelchair who can't go down the sidewalk because you're blocking it? I noticed in the video many of the people had garages that were packed with garbage. Clean out your garage and park you car in the garage.

Isn't this a problem with zone planning and actual planning and construction of housing? Building codes usually must meet all legal requirements including street parking. In other words, there is one too many homes on both sides of that street.

I see garages in the background, are they being utilized as garages?

Better than City parking. Everyday from 6am-10pm you can only park at a meter for two hours before you have to move your car so others can park. So you park in a garage which is mad expensive and if you’re not lucky enough to have a driveway or parking lot where you live at you have to have a permit to park in residential downtown areas. Because if you don’t you only get two hours before you have to move your car. It’s bullshit have to spend as much money to park your car somewhere as the note and the insurance

Here’s an idea, park in your garage or on your driveway.

Who came up with 4 feet ? You don't need that much distance between parked cars where there are meters.

Depends on the width of the driveway, the width of the street, and if there's a car parked across the street on how much angle a car needs to get out of a driveway. Easier to set a one size fits all rather than take all of that into consideration for each driveway.

|I see each house has a driveway. If your vehicle does not fit in the space provided, EITHER, buy a smaller car, OR, find off site parking. DUH. ! !

Sounds to me like the council is looking to make easy money. Not interested in the people of the community, just their money. Of course, if the councilors took less pay, the council wouldn't get short of money. It will always be the community services that are cut, or the community that is fined, but the councilors pay will never drop.

That what happen on my street. Get complaint about ONE car to close to someone’s drive way, cop going check the whole street. He said so the one car that got ticket no complain about the other cars. Once the word went out, everybody came out to move there care😂

There a several issues. Poor planning of the neighborhood development, too many people per house and vehicles that are much larger now than they ever have been. If it were me, I'd tell the city where they could stick their tickets!

if your driveway is not long enough for your car clean out your garage and park there.

4 feet away from a drive way wow the city would make millions in the city of la my drive way always has a car blocking it completely so is possible to call a tow truck to remove the cars I hate having to do this but it's getting out of hand with covid and new buildings being built the parking has gotten ridiculous people who dont even live on my block come and park there just annoyed .

Lyn Berger It is possible to both be in the owner's driveway AND block the sidewalk at the same time. You cannot park in the part of your driveway that blocks the public sidewalk. The people they were ticketing were NOT just pulled up on the sidewalks. Pay more attention.

If the neighborhood is fine with the way they park. Do not go ticketing. Unless they call for service. Enforcing parking is not good if everyone says who called you. That makes me think you have zero criminal or violations enforcement that needs to be done. And this is the only thing that is left to enforce. A perfect neighborhood. I don't think so. So while I don't like mass ticketing for something that goes on regularly for years, I do like police enforcing laws. That way if there is a stupid law, we can get that resolved. I think that everyone should have recieved a warning and maybe letters sent to neighborhoods that this happens commonly that they would start enforcing it. Personally I think the tickets for anyone parked on the sidewalk portion of their driveway should get a ticket. If that sidewalk needs repairs because of vehicles always being parked on it, the taxpayer has to foot the bill.

I don't get it. Why are people complaining about citations for parking too close to a driveway? If you don't leave a few feet a car can't pull into or out of the driveway. A lot of the other tickets were for parking in your own driveway but blocking the sidewalk because the driveway isn't long enough. You can't block a sidewalk.

@@alanunderwoodsr8622 There's probably provisions in the zoning laws setting minimum distances between the front edge of the lot and the front of the house/garage Sidewalk is probably between the curb and the front of the lot. There might be different residential zoning classes, SOME of which are designed with the intent that driveways in that zoning class are solely meant as access to the garage NOT as parking. Classes might also vary things like width of side yards (or allow just one or no side yard) and distance between building and back of lot.

They have a garage. Should use it. Problem solved

People have too many motor vehicles.There is no excuse.When they park on the sidewalk they obstruct pedestrians,wheelchair users etc.Sidewalks are not meant for parking cars on period.If you have too many vehicles sell enough of them so you can have a legal place to park. Around here the law states that you can't park on public right or way, which actually means in many cases that you would have to park 2/3 of the way up the driveway (up to 20' beyond the sidewalk towards the house is actually public property) but you'll only get a ticket if the sidewalk is infringed upon (even by just the bumper). Seems fair (not the law, but the way it's enforced). Cars parked across a driveway is ignored unless there's a complaint. You can block your own access to your own property if you want, and before writing the ticket, parking enforcement will check with the property owner/occupant to make sure it's not a hoax call, or run the plate and if it's registered to that house they ignore it. Seems fair.

Where I live, there's no requirement to be a certain distance from a driveway. If there was, we'd lose thousands of parking spaces. It would be chaos.

Problem is that (1)people don't clean them out to use for off-street parking, (2)these homes were built back in the '20s and cannt fit a modern car anymore, and/or (3) people cant afford to renovate their parking garages for more space by purchasing a permit from the city

How about the dirt bags who think that sidewalks intended for pedestrian safety are their personal parking spaces? Every last one of these law breakers got off easy. They should be grateful that is all they had to pay. In my neighborhood three wheelchair bound people were killed on the street by motorists because they did not have access to sidewalks that were obstructed by vehicles in the last 12 months. In that same time I personally reported over 30 violators to code enforcement and watched several get towed. You see, where I live, if you obstruct a sidewalk to the point where an oversize wheelchair cannot fully navigate said sidewalk, they order your vehicle towed. You don't get to come out and move the vehicle. By that point it is too late. Your vehicle WILL be towed to the city's impound lot. After the three day processing period you will get the opportunity to pay the towing fee, the vehicle storage fee and the fine. The first offense you pay a fine of $150. the fourth offense you pay a fine of $10,000. If someone in a wheelchair is killed nearby then expect to be prosecuted for involuntary manslaughter and go to prison for up to ten years. My grandmother was in a wheelchair for the last three years of her life and had a very difficult time navigating around obstructions. I have absolutely zero sympathy for the inconsiderate jerks who prevent people from using side walks.

These residents must have been warned about parking violations. They have no excuse. I am a developer of subdivisions so I know what the Village Park community is grumbling about and why they had to take action against these guys not following the Association rules. In every community, you always have these people who don't follow the rules they agreed to follow when they moved into the house.
