I remember I was 13 and my dad was a pro at this game, I watched him complete it dozens of times, one day he sat me down and said, you are going to compete the game on pro with no help. It took me days and I died lots of times, but eventually I did it.

I love when he says "Oh, break's over i suppose". He sounds like he is eating a sandwich and Leon interrumps by pushing a door

"My back's killin me! Years haven't been too kind to us I suppose" "We've been saving that for the right customer" The merchant uses "us" and "we" a lot in his dialogues I like to think he's referring to him and the plaga in his body.

The funny thing is. In the original- after night comes you notice his eyes go bright red/ yellow ish-to show he has a plaga in him. However in this one- he’s eyes don’t shine at all so who knows. I like to think he has something special of a plaga which is why he can both blend with the humans and the infected. Like how Sadlers eyes go blue due to his plaga being significant or that he has had in growing inside of him for sometime. But the point being made-and this is totally just my theory- but he obtained one of the plaga that he controls but one that would just rather like chill? Makes sense since the man is able to be so calm in that type of area- but moves around everywhere, looting what anyone doesn’t use anymore and selling it to Leon. Using the time and place to make a living. Sadly.

@@mdmustard9968 Luis and his Plaga had the same goal and the latter helped the former on his research in removing the parasites from the host, so maybe the Merchant and his Plaga also had a similar relationship: they both agree on making a profit.

I love how much more nuanced and well-acted this voice is. the nice sharpness while still paying homage. not as cartoony as the original, but still quite cheeky and charming.

I feel like the original was just made as a joke, but it's been so long and the character is so legendary that they needed to make it more serious in the remake. The fact that Leon doesn't say anything about him (or the huge shooting gallery he owns in the middle of the village) it's so funny, but him questioning that would take the serious out of the game.

Fun Fact: while its odd that a Cockney Arms dealer is in the Middle of the Spanish Countryside, Britain and Spain actually share a border in the form of Gebralter with British people living there so its actually not that odd as he could have came from Gebralter or even lived there hence is familiar with the area.

One of my new favorite lines!

The thing that makes this voice so good for me is that even though we never see this dude’s face, I can **perfectly** picture every facial expression, wrinkle, tick, etc from his face just from the way he says his lines. Soooo good.

Along with the background music, it feels like you're back home with the merchant. Strange how a character that simply sells you items can have such an impact on everyone who loved RE4. Such an amazing remake.

The merchant was really the only thing I was worried about for the remake and he did not disappoint

I like how hes giving a bit more personality than the original they didn't just make another Duke from resident evil village he's cocky, sarcastic, drives hard bargin, really really knows his weapons, has a very gruff cockny accent that slips posh once in a while plus he seems more mysterious saying things like 5:02 it's like he's been alive for many many years so he's either a bioweapon or the another theory would be he's the original explorer henrey travis who founded the original virus in Africa in the 19th century and has lived for decades under the alias of a balck market merchant

If im not mistaken, the original kinda shows his eyes that he's just like one of them Granados, so it was pressumed that he is also a bio weapon

I was worried when I read he had a new VA but this is fine. The original will always be nostalgic, though.

I will never get sick of hearing the remake or original voice merchant is forever an iconic npc

I think the merchant's the true master plaga. He retained his human cognition and is still able to discern right from wrong. My guess is the plaga kept him kicking longer than he would've been on his own.

"The years haven't been kind to us, I suppose..." Who are you people?! He keeps referring to himself in the plural "we" just like the Duke.

At first I thought it was because Plagas have their own personalities independent from the Dominant Plagas and their host, since Luis is alive and free of infestation because his Plagas actively killed itself out of sympathy for him. And when The Duke did it, I thought it was just a royal 'we', as in he was speaking for whatever bit of land he claimed to be in charge of. But both of them doing it AND knowing eachother personally... it seems like there's just an organization of B.O.W. - infected traders who are just built so goddamn different they may as well have plot immunity.

Just two things that I think are missed opportunities. First, I wish Leon had some interaction to the merchant like some type of conversation. And, I wish when we see the merchant for the final time that there was some sort of goodbye or something.

He would be a really cool mercenaries character, his gimmick is that he is really slow but he is loaded to the gills with guns and ammo. Maybe he could even have an RPG

I know it's not, but in my head the voice actor for this dude is Idris Elba 😂

Im still conflicted on how the merchant has a plagas in his body, but still is just a merchant for Leon, he either somehow has a dominant species of plaga that allows the user to retain their thoughts, or he's not letting a parasite stop him from doing business 💀

I love how hes in front of a perfectly good table but still stores literally everything in his massive trench coat

In the Original, if you shoot him with PRL 412. it won't killed him, so he is not infected. he is just Human like Leon
