I love both versions. OG Leon is just in full on cheesy action hero mode and cannot wait to spout his one liners. He’s a ton of fun and very memorable. He played right into the over the top nature of the villains he encounters like he does this every day. Remake Leon is more consistent with his character from 2, which is something his version actually does do better than the original. He’s kinda jaded and totally over these megalomaniacal assholes and his humour comes from not being amused at all. His reading of “Who the HELL are you?” when he meets Salazar is both appropriate and hilarious. He’s like the straight man who gets the best lines and it totally works.

I love OG Leon, but I favor the Remake version more this time around. Mostly because we now have a back story about his training, about Krauser. I also like the more serious and mature attitude but with a little comedy, too. I almost cried when the Remake added the "bingo" iconic line. But there are some things I miss from OG, like Ada's "Need a ride, Handsome?", the knife in Salazars hand, the laser room. Also, I don't hate Ada's VA, but it feels off. She is supposed to have a sexy, sultry voice and attitude. She is a Femme Fatale for God's sake.

It’s in the same beautiful vein of Ethan Winters’ “F*** you, you crazy b****!” Capcom is doing a better job of remembering that most RE protagonists are Americans with guns who are focused on survival and don’t care about the deeper mysteries and horror of the world they inhabit. That’s true to how people irl would act, thus I end up enjoying the modern era of RE (Everything since 2017, including 7, the Remakes for 2 and 3, 8, and the Remake for 4) the most for its commitment to realism and true drama over the campy comedies of old (some of which included hurtful micro-aggressions, such as “*Sigh* Women” and “Guess that’s the locals’ way of breaking the ice”)

Honestly I agree. RE4 Remake was how I entered the Resident Evil series and got into a lot of the other games. After playing both the original and remake they both are amazing in their own ways. It honestly annoys me that everywhere I go there's a war over which one's better or which one's bad. There are definitely some things in the original that had charm (examples being the dialogue and voices), and there were definitely some things that the remake improved from the original (example being Luis and Ashley's characterizations). They're both really awesome. Sure they both have their issues, but I don't think there's a single game I've played that doesn't have something that could be better or improved. The graphics look great in both, there's amazing dialogue moments in both, there's solid voice acting, and they're both fun to play. I'd even dare say that the remake is one of my favorite games I've ever played. (I haven't gotten entirely through the og yet so I can't give much of a verdict yet.) So yeah, there's my overly long explanation of why they're both the greatest games of all time to me.

I'm glad they got Nick to reprise his role as Leon. It helps show Leon's growth from Res2, more naturally. I do find it funny how they used Leon's A scenario from re2make. But honestly, it flows better. Having Leon learn from Marvin. Aswell as Leon holding on to Marvin's knife. Is a nice touch.

My only issue with the remake is Ramon. He's easily one of the most memorable villains in the original game, everything from his outfit, the way he looks, talks and presents himself is so campy and funny. Nick is the perfect remake Leon, Paul is the perfect classic Leon and Merchant. Both make the character so much more cool and loveable. I love the remake as much as the original. Both have different tones but work perfectly. Some of the one-liners from the remake are great. But OG Leon will always be the best Leon for me personally, it's cause of his cheesy and fun character portrayal in OG that his popularity in the series grew. I like OG Leon because he just plays along with the craziness that's happening in front of him, but I also like the remake portrayal of Leon who's done with everyone's shit as it's very realistic and is a better development if they are trying to aim for a disillusioned Leon for future games.

I personally love how they handled Leon’s character in the remake. His sharp wit and dry sense of humor are still very much intact. His voice is absolutely dripping with sarcasm. At the same time, they did a fantastic job making him feel more human this time around. In scenes such as after he kills Krauser, or during the scene when he finds Ashley and sits next to the bed while he waits for her to wake up, you can tell that the weight of everything is starting to get to him. Unfortunately for him, he doesn’t have time to dwell on these thoughts and instead has to push them aside and focus on the mission. Unlike the original, it feels like he’s trying not to let things bother him because he can’t afford to, not because he doesn’t care.

And personally I feel that’s the problem with a lot of games and media. Not everything has to be realistic and easily relatable. One of my Biggest gripes about the remake was just how damn depressing and miserable the atmosphere was and it just felt like Leon was whining like a 5yo about everything. I’m not saying the original is better in every way. I do like updates like Ashley not being annoying for one. The combat system. The gem system etc. there’s a ton of great additions. However. Coming back as an Original massive fan of Re4 it was just. Depressing playing as Leon that was just miserable the entire time. Life is already miserable, I don’t need to play the Re4 version of the Last of Us. If I wanted depression from my video games I would play literally ANY Yoko Taro game since any is guaranteed to be 10 billion % uber depressing as fuck. 😂 like Automata. “oh are you having fun with big ass android girl? @@DarkEclipse23 I wouldn't say Leon acts depressed, but rather...more grounded. He takes things seriously when necessary, but his sarcasm and dry sense of humor are still intact. I like the fact that we can see how much his trauma has taken a toll on him over the years. He's riddled with PTSD and survivor's guilt. It adds more depth to his character and makes him feel more believable. To be honest, I think it's just a matter of personal preference. I personally like when a form of media, whether it's a video game or a TV show or a movie, knows when it needs to be taken seriously. It makes the stakes feel higher, which I think was lacking in the original (but I also know that the light-hearted tone and cheesiness of the original is what people love about it). As a long time fan of the original, I like both games almost equally, but I do have a slight preference for the remake. I like how the story and characters were handled. Also, you're good, and I appreciate that you didn't come here looking for an argument or insulting my opinion. I know that people have their own gripes and nitpicks with the remake, and that's fine. What I can’t stand is when people jump on the "soulless" argument bandwagon as though there are absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever. It's fine to have a preference for the original, but the people who act like no effort went into the remake or that it didn't make improvements to the original are in denial.

Paul Mercier as Leon is hands down one of the best voice performances ever made. Everything from his masculine voice pitch, to the deliveries of all his lines, to balancing between being a sarcastic bada$$ and having genuine emotions. Just absolutely perfect. "No thanks, bro," will forever reign supreme in my mind. I find Leon's new line to be lackluster, really. The remake's focus on seriousness and intensity can be a bit too reminiscent of modern horror movies. It tends to feel rather cliché, but this time without the anchor of the silly, B movie camp that made the original so lovable. I think a lot of people forget that being campy doesn't automatically equate to being shitty.

A little cheese is in the remake but you can obviously tell they didn't have the resolve to fully commit which is why it feels so lukewarm in comparison. It's also very clear Capcom wants to cater to the West moreso than Japan, specifically America. In turn, everything is super watered down as to not offend anyone. I honestly like how the remake doesn't entirely outdate the original, I can see myself playing it for nostalgia some time from now still and have just as much of a blast as I do right now with the remake. Leon in the original was campy, funny and over-the-top. Leon in the remake is a little broody and a smartass, while little more grounded as the plot has been made a lot darker and little more serious. I'd argue he is a lot more endearing in the remake as he doesn't really feel so invincible as he did in the original, but both takes are great and fit the game and the pacing perfectly. Also P. Mercier did not disappoint and delivered a stellar VA for him AND the merchant.

I honestly did really enjoy the remake, and I think they’ve done a pretty outstanding job at making these games feel fresh. However, my problem with all the remakes in general (not just RE but all games) is that writers these days seem to think it’s cool to take away all of the characters fun charisma and replace it with more gritty, dry, “realistic” personalities. The new Tomb Raider games are also a good example of this, with how they made Lara’s character so bland. And Leon is a similar case imo. No witty humor. No attitude. No charisma. I don’t mind having serious characters sometimes, but why are they literally ALL the SAME now? Can we have a bit of individuality?

I don't know what you're talking about with Leon in the remake because they definitely gave him personality. Yes, they made him more serious than the original, which fit more to me. But his dialogue still has humor and attitude. An example I feel was the delivery on the "Who the *hell* are you?" when he meets Ramón. And personally I just really like the "I'll give you a holy body" line at the Saddler boss fight. To me they made Leon more done with everything, and that makes sense since after the events of RE2R, and then the 7 years of intense military training and from what it sounded like *no* therapy, I would also be dry and done with everything.
