This is one of the most beautiful stories I have ever seen. I don't think I've ever heard of a hen adopting a pigeon. Thanks for showing the series.

Hi Pollyanna and thank you so much for those lovely comments, I really appreciate them. For me experiencing the love and care that a hen can give to any kind of baby bird is something quite magical and wonderful to observe. I am so lucky to have experienced this with not only a baby pigeon but also with a baby jackdaw and a baby blackbird, which I also was able to film and share. I believe we can learn an awful lot about how societies can work while watching the birds, who seem to have a greater understanding of both love and care. All the very best from sunny Normandie, Sue xx

Pige is coming along wonderfully! Now if his hen mama will just start feeding him my mouth, he would be elated! I so enjoyed seeing his progress. Thanks for the update!

Hi there Good to hear from you and thank you for the lovely comments, appreciated as always! Yesterday he took a piece of food from her mouth and that was good enough to start him trying to eat. This morning he is even better at picking the food up and he eats every bit she puts down for him, as well as eating from the bowl on his own. Conversely he will no longer really let me feed him, although I did manage to get him to eat a raspberry because the hen was eating them all! Best wishes from Normandie, Sue xx

Hi there and thank you for those lovely comment, they are so appreciated. I hope you get to see the film I uploaded today because they have made so much progress and so quickly. The bond between the mother hen and the wild baby wood pigeon is amazing and she has succeeded in teaching him to eat. He also has overcome his stress problem which was as bad as I have seen and completely become an effusive baby pigeon again! Love from sunny Normandie, Sue xx

Have you considered opening a bird rehab center? You are obviously very good at this!

Hi there and thank you so much for your comments and if you were to ask my mother that question, she would tell you we have! She calls our home 'The Bird Hospital' I think last time she came we had a run-over/road accident Moor hen living in the kitchen. I think we just get birds brought to us and/or people asking us what they should do because they know we have done this sort of thing before. I love it when we can do something however, when we can't it can be really sad. We had a tiny goldfinch dropped on its back - we're guessing by a Jay had taken it from the nest just in front of our house. It was just getting its feathers and we got it to eat and trust us but it had something seriously wrong as its balance was never good, it was always down on its hocks. Luckily and touch wood though with the bigger birds, even those with really bad injuries do get well. Birds have amazing powers of recuperation and if they can get past the initial trauma (which can be fatal if untreated) then we can get them well - the organic diet is key but also having our own birds here really helps so much! In the case of the aforementioned moor hen we had a real problem with feeding but then we found a video with happy Moor hens on a lake all feeding and we played that and were able to get him/her to feed. We also get a few animals too, the last one was a pet rabbit with a badly squashed paw - I wanted to keep her!!! All the very best, Sue xx

@@Pavlovafowl That was really clever of you to use that video to help the moor hen perk up! I'd like to rehabilitate animals too but It's illegal to do so in my country without a license which, while understandable, makes things a little difficult for me as there aren't a lot of places to get one. Mostly I just learn from videos, like yours, on what to do if I find an animal in distress and there's no one around to help. I also have a book on animal rehabbing. Keep up the good work and have a good summer!

Aw! Look at him sitting on top of his mummy! What a wonderful update! So lovely to see him asking his mummy for food! And to see her trying to offer him food! They are delightful. Thanks for sharing. Oh what time it must take to care for this little one. You are wonderful! Thanks for all you do.

Hi there and thank you for those lovely comments, they are appreciated as always. Well I am no longer feeding him because two days ago his Mummy hen succeeded in getting him to eat on his own. He took a piece of food directly from her beak and from then on and very quickly, he has been able to understand more an more about the mechanics of picking up food. Firstly, as you will see from my today's video, which I filmed yesterday, he hadn't quite understood about opening his beak - he was still trying to 'vacuum clean' the plate and suck up the food but today he is picking up every piece of food the hen puts down for him as well as going to the plate of food on his own initiative and eating from it. He has been much quicker at learning than my previous rescue wood pigeon but his mother hen is a superb teacher. Aaww that is such a lovely comment at the end - you made my day! Love, Sue xx

@@Pavlovafowl how wonderful to hear he started eating on his own. And a big relief. Now his mummy hen is helping him get what food he needs I hope you can rest a little easier. Have a wonderful weekend.

He looks so much better! How often do you have to feed the little guy?

Hi Gina, I started with just 2 big feeds a day because he was so stressed and then went on to four but he has been so quick to learn to eat and he is going in the greenhouse with his mother hopefully this afternoon so will be able to feed continuously. All the very best from slightly rainy Normandie, Sue xx
