RERUNS | Wrestling's Recycled Storylines
In wrestling, when a storyline works well, it’s only a matter of time until it’s tried again. Yes, like every other form of entertainment, the squared circle is no stranger to doing things over. But are these angles ever as good the second time around? Well, that’s exactly what we’re going to be looking at today. So, join us today as we take a deep dive into the biggest examples of this in Reruns: Wrestling’s Recycled Storylines.

Theodore Roosevelt was a tough challenger, but kicking out of the Tombstone is a lot harder than shrugging off a gunshot wound.
Wrestlers coming back under a mask after a suspension or a forced retirement is another often reused storyline. Junkyard Dog coming back as Stagger Lee, Dusty Rhodes as the Midnight Rider, Jerry Jarrett as the Hawaiian Flash, Andre the Giant as the Giant Machine, Hulk Hogan as Mr. America, among others. Also, Jerry Lawler did the storyline where he got hit by a car, long before Austin got run over.

Under impersonators, you forgot about the craziest one yet. That being Ethan Page vs Ethan Page in Impact. Plus the one time impersonator of AJ Swoggle, a tactic to get in the heads of Carl Anderson and Luke Gallows opponents, also in Impact.
Let's not forget the trope of the heel authority figure. WWE beat that concept to death for twenty-five years.
Nobody will ever beat Undertakers 250 year Wrestlemania win streak!
15:30 I agree completely. Tag Team Champions should (in most circumstances) beat two singles wrestlers who are put together by happenstance (and often are bitter enemies who don’t even want to team together). That should be true even when the two singles wrestlers are in the world title picture. I have always felt that way. Having the champions loose to a random pairing makes the entire tag division look so weak. If they are doing it because (over the long-term) they want to have these two singles wrestlers transition to being tag team wrestlers, then that would be fine (like they did with Sheamus and Cesaro). But it’s almost always some short-term teaming at the expense of all the dedicated tag teams on the roster. If you book the tag division to be strong, then people will care about the tag division. If the Tag Team Champions can beat (for example) the World Champion and the number one contender for the World Championship, then you give people a reason to care about the tag division. At least that’s how I’ve always felt. I’ve always liked tag team wrestling… despite various promotions telling me (through their booking) that I actually shouldn’t care at all about tag team wrestling, lol.
@suntanironman
Жыл бұрын
And there was also that time when Cena and Orton teamed up to take-on literally 85% or so of the entire Raw roster in a single match. 😂
One of the few times the odd couple tag team work well was when sheamus and cesaro were put together and they forced the bar.

FACTS.
Im so glad tonhave been able to witness Takers 2 AND A HALF CENTURY wrestlemania streak
The invasion angle never works properly. Especially if it's companies people trying to invade other companies or stable invading a company. Because it would badly damage the reputation of the stable or the company For example:- Suzuki gun (a faction in NJPW) invades pro wrestling Noah in 2015 and take all of their top titles, and this angle showed a mid card faction in NJPW being way powerful then the main eventers of Noah and this angle would later leads to Noah invading NJPW in 2016 and it didn't translated well, during the angle Noah's viewership were falling down and after the angle Noah had two terrible years were they were nearly bankrupt and WWE was interested to buy them.
*7:43** I mean I know he’s old but he can’t be that old. If he was “the dead man” wouldn’t be a good nickname, it’d be an apt description*
The Yes Movement was also redone 5 years later with KofiMania, ironically with Daniel Bryan as the heel.
Bobby Lashley's sisters! Come on, world needs another go at this concept!

13:00 Not just Survivor Series 98. Vince screwed HHH at Survivor Series 99. Angle screwed Undertaker Survivor Series 2000. Angle screwed the alliance SS 2001. Heyman screwed Show SS 2002. Kane screwed Undertaker SS 2003.

How about storylines involving love triangles or affairs? Examples: Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, and Kurt Angle; Edge, Lita, and Matt Hardy; Rusev, Lana, and Bobby Lashley; and Dolph Ziggler, Mandy Rose, and Otis. Also, there's pregnancy storylines as well such as Mae Young birthing a hand (ugh) and Lita's miscarriage.
AEW doing the female version of the OUTSIDERS, the OUTCASTS. Even got the spray paint 😂
7:30 Well… Asuka almost had a undefeated streak that long. Bafflingly the WWE booked her to lose to Eva Marie in that NXT battle royal match. I know we aren’t suppose to count those types of losses (for some reason). It’s only suppose to be singles matches that are counted (and only pin or submit losses - usually not disqualifications or count-outs ). But Asuka did lose in the middle of her winning streak because modern wrestling is terrible with long-term story planning, lol.
It'd be great to see one on the greatest/most unique beards in wrestling
Wow Undertaker's streak was a LOT longer than I realised. No I understand why he was called the Deadman!
Eric Young’s moment was a feel good moment though, EY WAS DOPE
We have to remember, Vince hates tag teams and it has everything to do with a reason that is no longer valid left over from his father. As for the giant heels it is all in how you beat them. The best example of how to beat the big heel is how Cena beat Batista in the last man standing match. He didn't actually beat him he used a object to beat him. That didn't make Batista look less like a monster at all.
Cena also won the tag titles with the Miz too.
Funny how you skipped over shameus and cesaro when it came to the ood couples who elevated the tag titles and division
Nexus was an invasion angle that could have worked pretty well. Honestly all of them can work well for what they are. But like....It takes good writing and Booking. But it seems like this companies refuse to do that😂 Also I honestly like the Rivals to Tag Teams angle. I always have lol. Maybe don't let them win the tag team belts every time though
3rd generation wrestler starts out as baby face gets rejected then joins a heel faction to find themselves. The rock and randy orton both worked out perfectly while going in the opposite direction. The rock kicked out the leader of the faction after gaining a title then goes on to actually be the face of the company. Randy wins the title and is immediately kicked out by the group to become a face only for the company to decide they like him more as a heel.
Mickie James And Trish Stratus Tho 👀
I'm going to guess more people that see this won't believe me than those that do, but I went to a live event one time and started a chant when I was 11 or 12. It was back in 2007 (edit: I looked it up and the event was April 28th 2008 in Atlantic City) The event was "ECW" and "Smackdown". Because back then, ECW was filmed right before Smackdown. So side note ECW wasn't actually live. It was filmed like 3 hours before the episode would actually air. The chant was during the Smackdown event, though. Back then, I religiously watched WWE. Every single episode of Raw, ECW, and Smackdown so I know for a fact that I actually STARTED this chant because after the show, every week on Smackdown moving forward they would chant it which was so fucking awesome to me as a kid. Really made the moment and memory just that much better. It was during Vladimir Kozlov's huge undefeated run when he was just bodying absolutely everybody. This was close to 15 years ago so I don't remember it well but Kozlov was making his entrance and I just started chantting (quietly at first) "USA USA USA" and slowly everybody around me started to chant it and then the all of Boradwalk Hall was chanting "USA USA USA". That was so cool to me. That all of us could be so in sync and what not. I was 12 so when that Smackdown episode finally aired that Friday, I watched it to see if I was on TV. I did see a glimpse of one of my signs at the very beginning of the show for like half a second which was dope but when we got to the Kozlov match and I heard the crowd chanting the announcers were talking about how- the crowd could chant USA all they want but it won't help whoever his opponent was! 😊😅 it's such a petty thing to be proud about but idk I still think it was pretty cool especially because the next week that crowd wherever the show was started that "USA" chant during their show then the next show, and so on. It became a mainstay of his entrance for at least a while.
I don't know if you consider the rise of Contra Unit in MLW the same kind of invasion angle.
They really gotta stop with the "can they coexist?" thing. I remember watching Bianca and Asuka teaming up right before Mania and was so sick of it
This Video 📸 Marvelous Wrestle With Andy I Love It.
If Vince hasn't been dead set on burying the WCW talent that he'd just bought out, that particular invasion angle could have been absolutely awesome. Some of the talent should have certainly went over in their 1v1 matches. And the whole bunch coming in should've won at least the first round, as to make it interesting in the follow up chances that everyone should've had when they were all coming in. That's just my opinion..... if you have a different opinion. That's cool, I respect it. It's all good.
“Cookie Monster Punk” 💀
undertaker's undefeated streak that lasted "2 & 1/2 centuries" will never be beaten
An Eric Young vs. Bryan Danielson match would have been epic.

Make a vedio on recycled gimmicks Goldberg/bron brekker Kane/Braun strowman Undertaker/Bray wyatt Dolph ziggler/shawn Michaels Cesaro/eichner Khali/omas Rey Mysterio/ kalisto Jbl/albero Seth/ edge Ridge holland/ brock Lesnar
I think the similarities between Becky Lynch and Stone Cold are only surface level. Becky's The Man persona, as well as her storylines aren't really 'anti-authority.' Anyway, I really dislike when they recycle the Screwjob. Not big on Odd Couple tag teams the way Vince does them, either. But there are others I don't mind. Am I the only one who likes Impersonator storylines? Wrestling is the only thing on the planet besides fighting games that can have 'mirror' matches, and I kind of love that. I only wish when Scott Hall and Kevin Nash came back to WWE, they got a storyline to beat up those old Fake Razor Ramon and Diesel (Kane!) guys, lol Plus , how could you forget Fake Sting?

Tbh I didn’t really pay much attention to Strowman and Rollins as a team when it was happening Not to say that I don’t think it wasn’t interesting to rewatch nowadays But it didn’t come off like they had any chemistry as a team Still, props to their characters for not turning on eachother despite being rivals Also fun fact 2019, is the only year in Strowman’s WWE career in which he was a babyface for the entirety of it without any heel turns

Just like Big Cass betrayed Enzo is very similar to the storyline when Triple H betrayed Shawn Michaels Like both of those storylines have 1 person pretending to look for the attacker only to be revealed as the attacker themselves.
Angle and Benoit teaming up should have been on the list
