I am finding these Colt Paterson episodes even more interesting after listening to your 24 December “Unloaded” podcast. (This is also a blatant plug for people to become Patreon patrons to get this great perk.)
as a someone from a country were i cant find the books this channel and this series really helps undertand the history of the develoment of guns i love your work, thank you
This is my preferred way to spend my night shifts at work. Watching Othais talk history about guns and Mae shoot said guns. Whether they be WW1 classics (so far) or replicas of antiques. A fountain of knowledge is provided in these sessions and I always look forward to them.

Well if you want engagement so be it. I am super stoked about your exploration of cap and ball guns. I never knew about the issue of loading early colts via disassembly for example, despite being a percussion gun shooter myself. That is why shows like this are so valuable. I am stoked for this series!

This gun shows why guns improved a lot and quickly and needed to. This model also makes a reliable doorstop or paperweight.

I’m enjoying this series-although I’ll admit for me it still plays second fiddle to primer, 20th century martial small arms forever hold my heart. That being said, I love this channel and want to keep seeing to grow, so keep up the good work!
I really appreciate what y’all do, thank you
Yay!! Been waiting for this one!
Great episode!! There isn’t enough great content out there for percussion guns and this remedies the situation. Thanks for the shoutout at the end as well! Can’t wait for the next episode! 😁
The traditional black powder versions didn't require as many grains of powder to fire which left more room in the cylinder. Also, the patching was not usually used in this era leaving even more room in the cylinder chambers. The extra room would allow the ball to fall further into the chamber much easier than what Mae experienced in her loading and would most likely allow the ball to clear the frame without as much struggle. Also, today's ammo production is assembly line, but back then it was typically done by the shooter with a press purchased with the gun. So the .36 caliber ball may very well only be .35-.358 caliber or something of that nature. This would happen because the press is a true .36 caliber and would be filled with liquid lead. The liquid would cool and shrink slightly. This shrinkage would cause the ball to be slightly smaller than the cylinder bore and allow for easier loading. To prove these theories, you would only need to cast your own shot and remove the patching. For safety reasons, I would recommend NOT messing with different powders or charge weights.
I love this show so much thank you very much for continuing it
I am just as glad to see this installment as I was the first. And possibly looking even more eagerly to the next than I was before.
Love the music and sounds in the intro! Especially the spinning cylinder: I could listen to that all day. Of course, also love the fantastic history, info, and analysis of Colt and his company's creations. Top notch story-telling and research!
Great video! I wanted to take a moment and say, after a long time of hmming and thinking, I started supporting you on Patreon (and Ian to follow!) Othias has all but confirmed a WW2 series is on the way, at least until covid relaxes and he has easier access to WW1 guns again. As it is, he has easy access to a lot of WW2 guns, so there's really no better time than the present. Even if WW2 will come with some differences to to the format of the show. (no period music, less footage, ect.)
Really looking forward to the Colt Navy episode down the line since I picked up a replica. It’s insane how popular, numerous and widely used it was for its time.
I genuinely enjoy this series, because unlike ForgottenWeapons, there is actually highly detailed instructions and examples on how the parts work as well the weapons being fired on a regular basis.

God I can't wait for the rest of this series and hope it moves on to Winchester and Colt rifles. As for the Patterson, my favorite story is about Jack Hays and the battle of enchanted rock. First hear the story on Wild West Tech when I was 11 or 12 and the episode is actually on youtube today. I'd highly recommend the episode
