REPOWERING our SAILBOAT with a VOLVO PENTA D2-50 (Episode 5)
Join us, Ben and Aurora, for the final stretch of our sailboat refit in the boatyard. We complete a very satisfying, and much needed, clean of our teak resulting in some amazing before and after shots. Our brand new Volvo Penta D2-5O diesel engine arrives and is installed. Ben takes us through a walkthrough of our new beast that will not only propel us to remote islands but also help provide us with power and hot water! Finally, we say goodbye to our sailboat's previous name, and await the official renaming of Loon.

Congrats on getting the engine in. It was fun to watch on video and also live in our cockpit. This video was fun catching a peek of our boat in the background a couple of times. Can't wait to see the launch when you finally get out of the yard (aka. "boat jail"). We hope to follow shortly ourselves.

You can achieve the same result with white vinegar. It's just a mild acid and cheaper and readily available anywhere.

LOL yep they did brush over this engine replacement like it was a small matter. I reality not knowing how to replace it themselves it likely cost close to what they paid for the boat for. Perhaps the eventually did a "cost break down video". I will keep catching up and see.
what's better? the volvo or yanmar?

Both are great engines to have on your boat. I think it really depends on who you ask.
