    Only last week I commented how beautiful your boat is, so happy for this thrilling and fully informative narration, however, that background piano player can walk the plank,it was so distracting trying to concentrate. That said, your absolutely gifted with genuine skills and knowledge with a smashing family. But to bring you back down a tad (respectfully) I couldn't get any engineering company to make me a simple longer threaded u bolt, after several months I got one from Italy Oscalati whom in turn said their agent in Largs chandler's can provide anything from their catalogue. It's a sad life when I'm insignificant nowadays to get any minor parts made. Hopefully you can return to Scotland soon.

    Everything looks just super smart! All the right upgrades! Lithium ✅, cockpit best cover ✅ , water maker ✅, great sail options ✅, upgraded anchor ✅! Only things I would change is get a gas barbie , using maybe 1lb canisters if fires were big concern! For emergencies you know just in case. Next change I'd make is changing one of the on suites for aft cabins, making a designated shower room so both guest cabins would have a head and sink to share and 1 shower room to share. You have the most beautiful & capable traveling sailboat. Is she certified for blue water? Sorry if you mentioned that! Safe travels and fair winds!

    Nice boat. Excellent video. Sounds strange for such a big boat to have so low water capacity. Unless adding more water tankage was part of the factory options. Of course with the water maker that is not a problem.

    Really good tour! Piano music not quite my thing, but you can't please everybody :D Could you post some details about the carpet? That's on my list. Also wish I had the hydronic system. The forced air heater you would need for your boat would be something like a Planar 9d 8Kw. The tubing is huge and I bet the Hydronic system is a more flexible installation.

    We‘ve left a link for the carpet in the description (www.chilewich.com). We made the patterns, sent them to the factory in the US and after some extended waiting the kit was delivered to the UK. Shipping and customs add up to about half of the price of the carpet, however…

    Great vid, lovely work and upgrades very neat. Why did you not connect the new hydro heating to the engine as well as the 2nd diesel heater? Did you add a vent to the cockpit? Looking to add the same to mine and fancy a vent in the cockpit to heat it when closed up like your..

  • @sailingpolaris

    @sailingpolaris

    2 ай бұрын

    Thanks Richie! I thought about connecting the engine to the circuit BUT there are quite a few complications / impasses e.g.: 1. I don‘t think the engine coolant pump is powerful enough for a 25m loop 2. You can‘t use engine coolant in the heating circuit and vice versa 3. I wouldn‘t tamper with the engine cooling system - too critical… … We don‘t have a vent to the cockpit - no space to fit a blower. But if we just keep the companion way open with the sprayhood backdrop closed it gets quite warm…

    I am awed by the amount of thought that has gone into your boat. I have one question, ... Did you consider converting to single line reefing, which would have taken only one clutch , rather than two? I converted my second reef to that recently and it seems to work well?

  • @sailingpolaris

    @sailingpolaris

    Ай бұрын

    Thanks for watching and for your thoughts! We have the first and second reefs as single line. The third reef as a single line would end up with a very long reefing line in the cockpit and the boom is not configured for a third single reefing. The third reef with 2 lines is quite a common solution.

    A very informative tour, thank you, she's a lovely yacht. You've made some very considered upgrades, did you insulate any areas of the yacht apart from the forward cabin (i imagine it's quite a destructive job!)? Out of interest, which other yachts made your shortlist before you chose the Bavaria?

  • @sailingpolaris

    @sailingpolaris

    3 ай бұрын

    Thanks for watching! We stuffed some insulation between the double skin deck - around the hatches mainly. Made a difference. Other than that it is nigh impossible to reach the hull for insulation. You don‘t want to rip out all these panels… We looked at quite a few new boats - we wanted a spacious yacht with a lot of light and light colours. There were no used boats with this features. So, in the end it was our budget and we found the Bavarias were way better quality builds than comparable production boats.

  • @philipwright7186

    @philipwright7186

    2 ай бұрын

    @@sailingpolaris There's a lot of nonsense out there about 'production's boats, I'm narrowing down a search and currently they're all 'production' boats. Nothing comes close for value and the larger the boat, the less of an issue the comparatively light displacement makes. I don't want a boat in which everything has to be powered for me to cope with it. It's just more to go wrong.

  • @sailingpolaris

    Seldén masts allow to add an inner forestay without additional running stays when within a certain max. distance from the top. I had this dine by a rigger… and yes, the distance between the stays is wide enough to furl / unfurl the genoa.

    Thank you for your nice video presentation of Polaris. You did really improve the boat. I have a question: which brand is your hydronic heater? I also have a water circulation heater on my Island Packet 40, brand Autoterm, but I am very unhappy with it, probly they did not install it correctly, and I any case I will have it replaced before next winter with another better brand water circulatikn system like Webasto o Eberspacher. Fortunately enough I also have a Dickinson diesel stove which kept the boat warm and dry all winter.

    Hi, saw one of your videos from 9 months ago. The white smoke in your diesel exhaust is probably moisture. I use Wurth diesel cure additive, have a read of the product, I rate it. Also diesel is rubbish now with the added bio fuel, rates have just been increased so make sure to add anti fungi mixture.

  • @sailingpolaris

    @sailingpolaris

    Thanks! I checked / cleaned the tank this winter - there is no water in the tank, so can‘t be moisture in the fuel, I think. As a precaution we use Marine 16 diesel bug treatment with ever fuelling.

    thanks for the tour. I wonder about insulation... is there any... is it a foam core... if yes how good is that insulating? did you have to remove all the inline panels and insulate for your self, to make it work in higher latitudes?

  • @sailingpolaris

    @sailingpolaris

    3 ай бұрын

    There is no insulation at all - except the foam core in some parts of the structure. The hull under the V-berth is very accessible and we isolated this part with 19mm Armaflex closed cell foam mats. We were also able to stuff some insulation between the outer and the inner deck panels around the hatches. And it makes a difference. No chance to remove the inner panels on this model, we have to live with the fact that most of the hull is inaccessible for insulation. I think the hydronic heater is a great solution. The circulation loop brings heat into the gap between the inner and outer hull skins. Also, the blowers make the air in that gap circulate which dries them out. Our boat was never that dry and warm as this winter with the new heater. If it gets colder we just throw diesel at it… not too economic, but I guess any boat is a heat sink in winter…

  • 3 ай бұрын

    @@sailingpolaris thanks for the answer... nice to know, that a boat can be warm and dry, even if that's achieved differently than I imagined. Until now I was kind of afraid, that boats necessarily have to be dump, freezing and moldy in colder weather.
