Repotting my Lucky bamboo plants into soil & upgrading them to a larger pot 🌱

Today we're going to repot my lucky bamboo plants into soil. I thought they were growing in water, so I've been treating them that way. Come to find out, they were planted in soil this whole time lol. You just never know what you're going to find when you bring new plants home from the store... This why I like to repot my plants almost immediately after taking them home.
We're going to upgrade their pot size and freshen up the potting soil (I use Miracle grow potting soil and succulent soil mixed together for a lot of my plants. It seems to give me good drainage and it helps to keep those pesky gnats away too)
I keep my bamboo growing in bright, but indirect light and I water whenever the soil dries out almost completelytothebottom. My bamboo growing in water, I have to change out once to twice a week, sometimes three, depending on the type of climate going on. If you have hot and humid climate like me, you might have to change the water more often.

Just make sure yours has soil, if your removing the water inside.. some might be different than others. Since I did this video, my lucky bamboo has taken off and I have so many propagations now. It's normal to get hesitant when growing, don't worry.. a lot of the time, I don't like to mess with my plants unless it's needed, especially if they're doing well. Since you haven't repotted in about 7 yrs, it's probably a good idea to do so (especially if it's not growing too well anymore).

Paying close attention to how each plant grows and what they like, really helps you to understand their amazing beauty and what they have to offer. Doing your research and watching videos are great, but to really get to know your plants, you have to grow it yourself and never give up. Try different things and remember to have fun with it😊Plants are very resilient to a lot of things and it's amazing what they can come back from.

    Hello I bought a lucky bamboo plant and continued to water it. Eventually it got too big for the pot that I had it in so I replanted it into a much bigger pot. I feed it about half a gallon to a gallon of water a week and it just drinks up the water like nothing. The problem is that it's been about 3 months now since the plant last grew and I'm not sure what's happening since I have heard and seen that these plants get as big as 12 ft in height. Does this mean I'm over-watering it or do I just need to replant it yet again into another pot that's much bigger? I have been feeding it less water lately to see if that helps and I'm not really seeing a difference in the plants growth.

    They're doing great. I have so many more now, all from the original plant. I have to give an update on this soon. My apologies. I have it growing in bright but indirect light and I don't let the soil dry out completely. I water when it's half way dry to the bottom. They like humidity and don't need to be fertilized too often or heavily. I top my soil with earthworm castings and use a slow release organic granual fertilizer once a month during the growing season. It's somewhere around a 5-6-6.. Hope this helps. FYI.. they don't like water with chlorine and flouride so I use either rain water, distilled/filtered water, spring water or I let my water sit out, with the lid off, for 24 hrs before watering with it. That helps to release most of the chemicals that are harmful to your plants 🪴

Looked it up and I was wrong when I thought they were needing more sunshine. I thought it might be a good time to see if they were also needing a bit more space inside the pot, mine have always been in soil. I popped it out as I watched you do it. I was a bit mortified to find the roots were over a foot in length. I broke the roots away from the bottom but I did use some fresh soil also. Wish me luck! Debbe

These lucky bamboo plants like to be planted in a well draining soil like miracle grow cactus palm and citrus potting mix and some added perlite or pumice for drainage. They are sensitive if you have hard water or flouride in your water. I like to use distilled, filtered or rain water to water mine.

I like to transfer all of my bamboo into soil because they seem to last longer and thrive better but that's my preference. That being said, these can be grown hydroponically for a while if fed and the water is changed properly. Hope this helps!

My bamboo is very large, the bottom leaves are turning yellow. I need to replant this to a larger pot. As of now, this bamboo is twined together in a long planter, similar to the one in the video. Do I break up the individual plants, or leave them in the long line as is? Also, in your video you don't show adding any additional potting soil. • @StaceyHerewegrowagain

    @StaceyHerewegrowagain

    Are they fuzzy white spots. That can be mildew or mold starting to grow on top.. sometimes it's a good idea to repot your bamboo when you first bring them home because they can be in a really thick muddy soil, which might not be good for your growing environment. I use regular potting mix by Miracle gro (it's called Nature's care organic potting mix) and I add perlite to it. It really helps with drainage and dries my soil out quicker. The mildew usually starts growing when your containers stay wet for too long. The perlite really helps with that. Lmk if you need anything else😊

    @@rosarodriguez_clay581 sorry if its a little late of a reply but a good rule of thumb for potted bamboo plants is to water so that the water stays a bit damp and is able to drain out the water you give in excess. As long as you let a plant drain excess water and let the soil dry a bit, you won't overwater your plants.

    I always let my soil dry out most of the way before watering again. Bamboo doesn't like dry soil, so just be careful not to let the soil stay dry inbetween the waterings. I keep my soil on the moist side for these, but not soaking wet. I use half succulent soil and half regular potting soil because I live in Florida and need the extra drainage material. If you live in a drier climate, you probably don't have to worry about adding half succulent soil and half potting mix. You could probably just use the potting mix by itself. How much you water them per week, will all depend on your type of climate.

    In a way i would say yes, I chose the pot size based on the size of the root systems which wasn't much at all. I wanted them to bounce back without any issues so I went on the smaller side just to avoid overwatering and such. This means I had to repot them sooner but that was not a big deal for me. I would rather repot it sooner than risking too much soil in the pot without much roots to such it up. Hope this helps!
