Repositioning speakers after a Power Plant

Ғылым және технология

Power Plant AC regenerators make a significant improvement to sonics in a high end system. Is it necessary to reposition the speakers to optimize that improvement?

Thank you Paul for answering my question ! Yes I have been using the P20 for about a month now and am happy to say that it made a +ve difference to my audio system. My issue with varying audio quality during different hours of the day is gone as I live in the vicinity of a small medium industry area. The bass sounded stronger and soundstage improved too. Voices come alive. Thanks !

Yes, absolutely, Paul. Initial speaker setup is really everything in the system, if they are set up correctly in the room nothing you add should require you to reposition your speakers. It is the speaker that producers majority of the image, sound stage height, width, and depth. Replacing say an amplifier or a dac will, as you say, only enhance what you have if the speaker setup is already locked in. 🎧👍🙂

In a roundabout way, it's snake oil just like cables. I talked with Andrew Jones at Axpona and he even said that cone material in drivers is all marketing. I asked him what he has in his setups and he didn't mention anything about a power plant from PS audio. Now isn't that ironic

How many hours is it necessary to burn-in a P20?

I've made many changes that were so impactful they required me to re-tune the whole system, which can be anything inside the walls of the building... Ethernet feed (unreal impact on the sound), Power (huge, fundamental impact on the sound), tubes, opamps, cables... sometimes a slight tweak of the toe in of the speakers and room acoustics. I reckon the reason I end up re-tuning stuff is because I've gotten really good at tailoring the acoustics and gear to fix issues and or get the sound profile I want. And my system is extremely tunable... Last night I got to a good place with a new non linear power supply for the preamp, which replaced an iFi SMPS with active power filter. The change is profound and I must say here, now, Mothers don't let your children us SMPSs in their music rigs... and do not use any iFi products with their active power filtering, that tech simply robs the rig of it's ability to convey the soul of the music, of the performance, even though it seems like a huge improvement at first. Cheers.

Power Plant? Not sure why this description is used for a power supply or voltage conditioning device. A power plant produces electricity from a primary source such as a turbine driven by steam, or a wind turbine, hydropower, solar panel etc. You may use a portable generator that uses diesel, gas or petrol and refer to it as a power plant. Once you plug a device into your wall socket, it is not a power plant. Must be due to the marketing departments in the HiFi industry trying to give HiFi enthusiasts a warm glow inside when they boast to others that their living room has its own POWER PLANT. We wouldn’t want people to focus on the music or building up their musical library and broadening their listening experience and appreciation of creative musical works now would we folks? 😁

It is a catchy marketing label. But grounded (no pun intended) on the notion that unlike the typical noise filter, the PS Audio device generates a sine wave from DC.

Because the power plant converts incoming AC to DC and them generated a new, correct, AC power feed for the gear. So it is generating the AC from a source.

You won’t need to reposition speakers after adding a Power Plant because it will make no audible difference.

It won't make a difference to you since your equipment is mediocre. A powerplant made a huge impact to my system
