I spent a year of my life in Qatar while stationed at Al Udeid AB. I went to Doha, twice. It was insane to see the despairingly difference between the two classes. Extremely rich, and extremely poor. You go down the road and see broken down Lamborghini’s next to them homes that looked like they were out of the movie Alladden. I got hair cut and gave the guy a $5 tip for a $5 haircut. He had tears in his eyes and hugged and thanked me. It’s absolutely disgusting how one sided the wealth is in that country.

Its amazing that a nation as small as Belgium has the top ranked team. Germany is in transition since their golden generation from 2014 World Cup all retired at basically the same time. Spain never recovered from losing their great generation from mid 2000's to 2010 or so. France has a good team. Having Kylian Mbappe alone gives them a great chance. Once again I think England is overrated. Argentina or Belgium is my pick for W.C. champion. Edit: Qatar and the players they bought still have no chance at all to win. Eligibility rules need to be changed so that you have to play for country you were born in or resided in most of your life. No more of this my great grandmother visited Poland one time so I'll play for them.

It’s about skill development and coaching and being immersed in it while you’re young (playing and watching). This lacked in NA for awhile but kids now get to watch all the same games and teams Europeans used to. This is the way we are catching up. To say USA athletes are better but they focused on other sports is just Asinine. For example USA top sports that other countries play are basketball, hockey, baseball. They are quickly losing their ability to dominate in Basketball with any number of teams being able to beat them these days. Dominican is the baseball Mecca and Japan can give them a go too. Many other countries. And hockey they are about 5th behind Canada Russia Sweden and Finland give or take. So no. USA is a long way from dominating world football and it has nothing to do with the athletes that choose the sport. Otherwise the UK could say because the dominate in soccer their athletes if switched to baseball would dominate. It’s about exposure, coaching, and culture.

How did they think that this would go? They really should have planned this out and laid out the ground work if they even wanted this to remotely work. In addition, they really needed to accommodate tons of people (teams, personel, fans etc.) And its been a disaster so far it looks. Not to mention the workers that probably went through hell to get this set up

A lot of really cool storylines with the USMNT at the World Cup this year. Would love to see Pat and the guys touch on these and bring more awareness of soccer to their fanbase. Get that soccer Lombardi!

Even though I'm not an avid watcher of football or as we call it here in the states soccer I'm interested to see how having the World Cup during the holiday season is going to play out. I say that b/c it's like having the playoffs of any other major sport during the week leading up to a major holiday while it's run by FIFA who is the Legion of Doom equivalent of a sports company & it's in Qatar where it can get very hot very fast.

I personally hate it. I'm a casual observer of the EPL and even though I am not hardcore about the EPL, I don't particular enjoy the season being interrupted. The World Cup belongs in the summer. Having it in winter feels wrong.

The only reason it got moved to November was because the European countries whined and cried about having to play in a little heat and this was the end result.

@@nuraby_9228 Well while I can't confirm nor deny why the World Cup moved to some degree they have a point about the heat b/c Qatar is one of the hottest countries in the world I mean the highest the yearly temperature can reach is 105°F (41°C) & in July 2010 it was 122.7°F (50.4°C).
