Wait a moment, there. The dishonesty is on the part of the reporters who sent the non-dog DNA to a service that tests dog DNA. It's reasonable for the testing company to just assume that the sample is dog DNA, and answer the question "Which dog breed does this look like the most?" If somebody sends dog DNA, they get a meaningful answer. If they send non-dog DNA, they get a ridiculous answer, because they asked a ridiculous question. These systems tend to have a threshold at which they say "This doesn't look much like anything I know, so I don't know what it is." Different companies will set the threshold in different places. Setting the threshold high makes the system good at rejecting non-dog DNA, but who cares about that? The fundamental assumption is that people are sending their dog's DNA. The cost of setting the threshold high is that, the higher you set it, the more geniune customers will get told "I don't know what your dog is."

@@ecbst6If you called the cigar a cigar, that wouldn"t have been a problem. But you called a grown woman you are not familiar with 'baby'. I haven't come across that in a long time. That is why I was suprised and responded as I did. I am not American, so maybe you still treat women like that in America. The reason that men typically don't do that anymore, in many developed countries, is because it is a way for a man to minimise and diminish a woman, and is therefore misogynistic. I doubt most men would appreciate it if I saw them in their professional working environment, and publicly called them 'baby' for thousands of people to witness, beyond their lifetime. So, it fair to assume that Christina Hagar, who would have had her fair share of belittling just by being female, is unlikely to appreciate a stranger calling her 'baby', attached to her professional work, on a social media platform that will last longer than her lifetime. I don't consider myself superior for trying to bring attention to the fact that calling someone you aren't familiar with 'baby' is not the way to treat an adult with respect. (I suck at arithmetic for starters, and had to look up how to spell arithmetic! 😆) If you think I am acting superior by focusing on your term of inequality, then your power balance is out of wack. Is treating an adult woman as an adult woman that controversial, or difficult?

This response is adorable! I wonder why they didn’t send in swabs of the whole newsroom to the lab that returned the crazy results so that everyone got their dog profile 😅

Shows you just how accurate DNA testing is . Genes do skip generations .

The difference between a human and any animal, as far as DNA is tiny - an autopsy on a dog for example would prove the likely hood of this to you. When DNA testing they are only looking at a small set of markers, and in this case with dog DNA, it would be which of those markers are more prevalent in particular breeds. This stunt by the press, as in so much of the methodology of the press, simply underscores their lack of understanding of anything technical or science based.

Christina strikes me as more a Corgi -- a Pembroke, to be precise. She's got the personality! And she seems inclined to follow a story with the same dogged determination of a Corgi herding cattle. Which, of course, means she'll make a great news director some day!

The Labs that took human DNA for dog one should check their process because if they were serious about our pet DNA they would have caught that it wasn't dog DNA. Therfore the Labs that did it correctly should be revealed as well of those that have failed this test.
