Back in 1987, Thames Television controlled the routing and networking of shows on ITV from Monday morning at 9.25am until Friday evening at 5.15pm. London Weekend Television took over the responsibility for the weekends from Friday evening at 5.15pm until just before TV-am started at 6.00am on the Monday morning.

So glad to see this again after all these years! Thanks so much for the upload! I'm not convinced that the "glitch" at 2:04 was as accidental as they implied at 2:56... My hunch is that the segment was too long and they needed to make a quick edit at the last minute... Still a weird way to go about it though.

@@christopherwilliams2093 Yes, was always a dream, though it's also always been clear to me that it's not at all easy to be a good one, and I don't think I would have been. That's a pretty important thing to be able to recognise as early as possible, I think! 😅

@@martinquested5544 Why not do what Trish Bertram did and knock on all the doors and think of the ethos of the channel's branding and so on? You have nothing to lose.

Or maybe the start time of EastEnders is a trade secret! Yeah, not much time gained if you count what was lost with the apology put on at the end.

@@Molejules Yeah, the point he was making was I think that at the time they were allowed to start programmes up to 30 seconds before or 2½ minutes after the published time without having to justify their changed schedules to the IBA (or advertisers). But with that bit removed it didn't make much sense even...

YTV spent £35,000 on a new frontcap in 1987, only for it to be snipped off in 1988.

The new symbol was dumped in September 1989 for the new ITV corporate ident package, which Yorkshire adopted, but by 1991 had tweaked to incorporate the Y logo more prominent.

Yeah I think YTV were understandably annoyed at the decision for the network to discontinue frontcaps from 1988. They made a point of always showing theirs and sticking it on the front of shows (so other companies had to join the show “late”). They weren’t alone - Granada still put their still caption on the front of their shows, notably Corrie, until August 1989. And YTV always showed other companies frontcaps if they were present on the tapes - I don’t think any other company did.

@@CaptainSiCoTSW kept it's front cap right up till end of franchise in 1992. Yorkshire TV made no effort to have IVC which was a great shame.

All old hat now after Thames loosing its franchise in 1992, both studio complexes are now rubble, with the Thames name, now just being a name, remembered Edwards, missed Thames at the time, but the world moved on with tv-am also losing its franchise in 1992, how bad the industry became.
